I slammed my locker door and pulled my jean designed backpack off the floor. My best friend stood in front of me, blocking the view of my crush.
“What class do you have now?” I asked Delia.
She rolled her eyes. “You know what class I have, you ask me every day!”
I wiped my palms on my jeans and tried to get a look at him. No use, she was completely in the way.
She twisted her hair around her finger and leaned against my locker. Her black hair fell down onto her shoulders.
“Who are you looking at? Oh, that guy that you've been talking about all week, right? Finally, I get to see him for the first time!” she asked loudly, and smiled from ear to ear.
I blushed, “N-no,” I stuttered.
He was right next to us, his locker is just right there, right next to mine.
I looked away from him and picked at my backpack’s zipper.
“Oh, you are!” She practically screamed.
That’s when Dean turned around and I caught his beautiful smile. I smiled, widely trying to cover up what Delia had just said.
My heart was pumping faster than ever and my stomach got many knots at the bottom of it, I felt like I was about to throw up.
Delia turned around and saw him staring at me, and she cracked up.
“Delia…?” he asked.
She smiled, her cheeks growing red.
“Yeah, Dean I can’t believe that we go to the same school!”
This is our second week of school after summer vacation, she said that she met this cute guy over break and that they’re dating, but how does she know Dean?
She threw her arms around his neck and he did the same.
They know each other that well?
“Delia…? What’s going on?” I pointed from her to him.
She let go of him.
“That’s him! It’s Dean!”
“Huh…?” I asked, flabbergasted.
She never mentioned a… Dean. Wait, she did. About two weeks ago she was blabbering on about that cute guy that she’s dating; I just never seemed to remember his name, until now.
My heart fell, fell down all the way to the white marbled floors.
“And you just noticed him now? I mean we’ve been walking to my locker everyday and he’s just right there.” I tried to cover up my sadness with a little laughter.
“I truly never noticed him, I’m so sorry sweetie…” she messed his brown hair up.
Tears were trying to flow out of my eyes, I couldn’t let them.
I turned around and headed for the girls bathroom. The tears flew out like a waterfall and my heart was speeding up.
I ran into a blue stall and locked it. My backpack fell off my shoulder and I sat on the dirty toilet. I sniffed and pulled some grey toilet paper and blew my nose, loudly.
Then I heard someone run into the bathroom. It must’ve been Delia.
“Angela? Are you okay? Angie!?” she kept on calling me.
I tried to stay silent by not sniffing and letting my tears roll on my cold cheek. I saw only blurry tears that covered my whole face.
I dug my head into my hands and sobbed. I could smell pee. That’s original, it is a bathroom.
“Angie…?” she looked through every stall, looking for me.
The doors opened and shut and she searched.
“Come on, what’s wrong?”
She reached my stall but couldn’t open it.
“Let me in.” She demanded.
I sniffed and blew my nose once again. Sometimes in this situation all you need is a best friend, but I don’t think it’s the right time now.
She kept on pulling the knob but it didn’t budge.
“Angela!” how did she know that it was me?
I pulled the lock and stood up. When she opened the door, I pushed past her and ran out. My backpack hit my back with every step I took. I wiped my tears and ran forward.
Someone grabbed my arm and I was afraid that it was Delia. I breathed deeply and my heart beat harder. My stomach filled with a hot sensation.
I turned around and saw Dean. That was a shock.
“Dean…?” I asked.
My tears stopped and I bet I looked like a reck.
“Why are you running like that?” he asked.
My heart burned, burned with love.
“Uh, um…” I lost my words and smiled.
He tapped his foot against the floor and let me go which left a cold feeling in that part of my arm.
“I am late for English…” I lied.
“We have first class together and it ends up that it’s free period.” He caught me.
“Oh right.” I hit my hand against my head.
He smiled showing those pearly whites, which made my heart stutter.
“What happened back there, I mean it’s not my business…” I cut him off.
“Exactly, it’s not your business.” I hissed.
Wow, I didn’t mean it to come out like that. His smile faded but he went on.
“But, that was weird, and she’s my girlfriend, I want to know if everything’s all right.”
When he said girlfriend my heart stopped.
“Then ask her, not me.” I said.
He rolled his eyes.
“But you’re the one that ran off!” he hissed.
I put my hands on my hips and laughed.
“Then why do you freaking care?!” I hissed right back.
“Because you’re her best friend.” He said it like it was a question.
I rolled my eyes and breathed in deeply. My stomach got a hot sensation at the bottom of it. He was clearly pissing me off.
“But you’re dating her not me, so back off.” I hissed and turned around on my heel.
He grabbed my arm again to stop me but I pulled it back.
I walked forward with my head held up high. I guess that I was trying to show him that I don’t need him to care.
