Wedding in the Rain

When we hope for change,
we never look to the rain for help.
Yet it trickles down roofs, into
gullies and on to leaves -
promotes growth in plants, and
lovers that be.

It runs down the spire,
down the lead-plate glass -
down threads and streams of
a cheap white sash...
and takes with it the strength
of mind and body so willingly given
for better, for worse and for life.

Beneath the forced smile, you can sense the pain
of this young girl under delusion. The scab
of a man she calls 'her lover' will always
drug her into submission. Oh if only
she'd taken her mother's advice:
she'd be miles away fom this pit...
Right now, she'll do anything,
just to get another hit.

A photographer, impatient,
rushes through the shots -
a family to keep,
mouthes to feed, whether it's raining or not.
A man with a ring, freshly placed
reaches for the hand of his 'prize',
but pulling towards his tacky suit,
his thoughts avert to tonight.
The final flash, a final shot;
the photographer makes himself scarce
and leaves the 'lovers' to book a cab -
they still have to pay the fare.
---
The frailty of love is it's subject
to change; where good relationships blossom,
bad ones will wilt; where true lovers live...
others are killed.
---
The rain drops cast sepias
across the front of the church,
the gloss of the paper glitters
in the glow of the electric fire.
A scrapbook labelled "Our Wedding",
lies spread across the floor.
More intriguing is the scabby man, laid
propped against the door. Near the album
lays his sorry wife, ring clutched in her palm.
Belt tied tight, she takes a shot -
just to keep her calm.

Her eyes close. Her mind widens.
Everything stops. The pattering fades.
Not a raindrop. Not a heartbeat.
Nothing.

((*laughs* another darkly 'Romantic' poem, but I honestly don't know what to make of it. Some of the rhyming may be off, or whatever... but I tried, at least. :D all feedback welcomed and appreciated.))

There will come a time you'll see, with no more tears
and love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there
with grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

I found this very interesting and when I write poems I try not to worry about things like rhyme poetry to me is a work of literature that beauty can be found in the words.

That was a really interesting and original poem :) the story behind it, the imagery and the language were all very unique. I found the concept really interesting, I felt drawn straight into the story straight away, and unusually, I was interested till the last line :) You teamed some modern familiarities with sort of older fashioned images I thought, which had a really great effect. I also felt you portrayed the characters in an interesting way, as I got a good idea of their personalities even though the poem itself was quite evasive about the people themselves (in a good way!)
The image of the wedding album lying next to the woman taking another hit was excellent.
I don't have much bad stuff to say, actually I have nothing haha, another thing I loved was how the concept of the rain stayed consistent throughout the poem
Great work! :D
