Spoiler
Alright, this chapter is short as well, but I'm trying to keep this easy and pleasant for readers to follow
I'll try posting more soon. And for those who were wondering where Matteo was? He's finally here! Only thing.. you'll notice a lack of physical description.. I'm sorry but Kaylee doesn't pay attention to any of it for a while so imagine him yourself! But don't be so deceived when it does come and he looks nothing like what you imagined.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.
All the girls from the team closed in on me with a big smile, cheering happily; we had won the game. We shook hands with the other team and the crowd from the stands flooded down onto the gym floor to congratulate the players. I turned around, just in time to catch Tara as she flung herself in my arms, squealing and squeezing me tightly.
“Ohmygod! I can’t believe that we won! You were so good!” she exclaimed.
“Yeah, you were amazing! And that dunk? Man, I’m so proud to be your friend!”
I pushed Tara away a little to see Ian, standing behind her with a big smirk on his face. He closed the distance between us and swept me up in his arms, spinning me around. I laughed, and told him to let me down but he wouldn’t let go. He abruptly stopped laughing and dropped me to my feet. I looked over my shoulder to see the new kid standing there, smiling at us.
“Hi, I’m Matteo. I’m new here, I go to Ashbury,” his voice was deep and cheerful, inspiring trust and confidence, but I knew better.
Tara hurried to his side, immediately jumping into her full-flirting mode, “Oh hi Matt! These are my friends, Ian and Kaylee. I just met him today before the game”, she said to us, then back at him, “A great game actually, wasn’t it?”
“Oh yes, it was amazing! I just came here to congratulate you’re friend here, Kaylee? Is that right?” I nodded and he smiled, “Great game; you sure did teach our team a lesson they’ll never forget, kept us on our toes ‘till the very last second. You’re really good; I’d like to play you sometime”, someone shouted his name in the crowd. “I guess I should go. I’ll see you around!”
I watched silently as he turned around, giving me one last smile and a wink, before disappearing in the crowd. I looked at Tara, who still looked slightly flushed and giggling.
“He’s charming isn’t he?” she said, batting her eyelashes.
I stared at her, shaking my head. I absolutely did not want her close to that guy. He was still a complete stranger, neither of us did know anything of him and he was friends with Jake. This didn’t look good at all. This guy looked perfect and he knew it; he simply radiated confidence. Not to mention that he most likely got everything he ever wanted, without even asking, because people would just want to please him. He could be the kind of guy that could be the school’s king if he wanted, and no one would ever stand in his way, not even the guys because they would want to be on his side and look good for the girls. She had to stay away from these guys, or all of the guys for that matter. My fist clenched at my side. They were all the same in the end.
“What?” she said. I simply shook my head, not even wanting to get in this conversation with her.
“I’ll go shower, before it gets crowded” I said, turning away. Once everyone was out of the locker room, and out in the hallways, there would surely be a commotion with the girls from the other team.
“Wait, Dan’s hosting a celebrating party and we were planning to go. Do you want to join?” Tara asked, glancing up at Ian with a look I couldn’t decipher.
“Hum no thanks. It’s been a long day and I’m tired but you guys go ahead and enjoy the night.”
They nodded and I made my way to the locker room avoiding people’s stares. A bunch of students from Ashbury had formed a cluster in front of the door, blocking the way of our team’s players to the door. I looked around nervously; this was trouble. I tried to pass and make myself as little as I could but I knew they would pinpoint me fast. They knew who I was, they had seen me score the winning point but outside of the court, I was nothing, I had nothing. A big hand gripped at the back of my shirt as I reached the door. I swallowed the clump in my throat at the brute force. Just keep on going. Don't react.
I was about to open the door when I heard another cluster of players from my team, heading to the changing rooms. Behind them were a few guys, their boyfriends or friends. Seeing this, hurried to the rescue or, well, more to the call of a fight. I ducked through the door as the argument started, the sound of a fist hitting flesh echoing in my ears but soon covered by the loud chit-chat of the girls inside.
