“Lesh, you can't just shrivel up into a ball forever and refuse to leave your room,”
“Why? Who said? As far as i'm concerned there is no rule against it,” I pouted.
Lucy sauntered over and sat on the edge of my bed. She looked out of the window at the heavy fallen snow. Tree's were the only live inhabitants in the garden. The clouds sneezed white powder, drowning the patio completely. She shook her head and pulled a strand of blonde hair behind her ear and turned to face me.
“Alicia..”
“Oh no you don't,” I stopped, shoving my hand in her face, “I don't need a lecture. Yeah yeah yeah, we all know you went through this before. I don't care,” I groaned sternly.
“I'm not going to lecture you alright,” she snapped. “ You think the world will just stop because your precious Luke has gone. Well that's not how it works. We all have to get on with things. We can't all kneel and do as you command. It's not as if Luke is dead. So what? He's left. Go find him. He certainly won't come home to you, selfish little Alicia waiting for her prince to come fetch her in a carraige,” She raged, storming out of the open door slamming it loudly behind her.
Huh. So that's what she thought. I was so not like that. Was I? And it wasn't as if I knew where he was anyway.
I slumped back onto the bed and wrenched the covers over my head. But it wasn't like I could come up with anymore excuses not when someone had spelled it out plainly infront of me. The phone rang causing me to jump wildly and tumble onto the cold floor.
Ugh.
“Lesh hi. I'm sorry I haven't called I mean life has just been so busy and I don't mean to be a bad friend and not call you and talk to you about Luke and I didn't..” I smiled as she rapidly mouthed off about how sorry she was.
“Stop, stop stop. Your not a bad friend. Your the best Mia,” I interrupted her.
I suddenly burst into a fit of laughter as I heard a genuine dramatic sigh of relief. I couldn't stop for ages as she must have been so worried of what I thought of her. She seemed a little frightened when I finally ceased laughing.
“ OK. Ill let you rest then. Should I come over soon or.. maybe I..” Her voice quivered unevenly.
Swallowing another fit of giggles I replied,
“No no, come on over as soon as you can you've made me feel better then I have in ages,”
I could almost see her smiling.
“Cool, tommorrow then after school. You will be in school. Promise me,”
So I promised her and clicked off the phone.
School was strangely normal, not that I was looking for a card and a big sympathy parade or anything I just... I guess I thought I would notice that he wasn't there more often. Of course it was obvious and I was aware he wasn't there the whole time but I found my day was too packed to even feel like crying. I wanted it that way. I didn't want time to cry.
I chatted to Mia all day and if I was honest I couldnt't have felt as good as I did without her. Her energy was like a spark to the wood-it set off the fire. I told her I intended on going over to her house after school and asking where Luke had gone as she didn't know. She shifted uncomfortably at any mention of his name which confused me. Maybe she was too close for comfort. So I asked her.
“Mia do you want me to stop talking about him? If you don't want me to then I.. just won't,”
She turned away and started off toward the bus, ignoring the question. I grabbed her arm.
“Mia?”
Head down she kept walking. I ran on a head and faced her.
Her eyes fluttered and eventually met mine.
“I didn't mean for it to happen,”
“For what to happen?”
“ I.. was the reason he...he left,” She whispered, eyes widdening in resentment.
I didn't answer her for awhile. I just sort of nodded with my eyes for her to go on.
“ It was the night after his party and I so wanted him to know. You and him were so happy and I was happy too because one day I knew you would marry and then we woud be sisters. Then I thought he would grow up never knowing who he really was. That terrified me so I planned to tell him. I knew in my heart it wasn't right but I couldn't let him..just go on without knowing,” Her tanned face was now covered in tears streaming down her face. I was frozen to the spot as she continued through her tears.
“ I didn't want to hurt him because I loved him as if he really was my own true brother but I knew he had the right to know he was.. he was,” She swallowed then almost choked on the last word.
"Adopted."
I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THIS CHAPT. REVEIWS APPRECIATED.
