On October 31st, so speckled with lore
of monsters, of demons, of ghouls and of ghosts,
do the easily frightened so often implore
for safety from evil on the night haunted most.
Halloween’s rumored to hold only the worst
mythological terrors, bad luck, and bad tidings.
The careless are always to ones to go first,
for the superstitious and cautious go far into hiding.
But is the day known for black cats and witches and warlocks
the only one on which we should crawl back in fear?
For is it not all days that are affected by Pandora’s box?
Am I truly the only one who finds set dates so queer?
I believe it is everyday that survival’s quite daunting,
for it is every night that those in the afterlife go haunting.
