Hello.

My name is Jenna. I’m a new member of YWS as of October 13, 2010. Let me tell you all a little about myself.

I am fifteen years old, and I will be sixteen is less than eight weeks. Yes, I still count down the days, and I will until the day I die. Yes, I am excited to get my license but also frightened at the same time, for fear of – well, accidents.

I live in Misery, more formally known as Missouri. Don’t ever live here. If you already do, I’m sorry. There is not a lot to enjoy about this dreaded place and I plan of leaving to where ever I can go whenever I can.

If America is a melting pot – or a “salad bowl” as I like to call it, then Missouri is the salad bowl of America. And St. Louis is the salad bowl of Missouri. And my high school is salad bowl of Missouri. There is nothing this place is defined to. It’s hard to be an individual kind in a place where everyone tries so hard to be different. But, somehow, I tend to be the odd one out.

I find myself walking through the halls of high school and I think, ‘God, I hate high school’. I hate the obnoxious people that don’t move fast enough. I hate the flirty ones who can’t keep their hands to themselves. I despise the athletic ones who look great all the time. I loathe the funny ones whose company is always enjoyed. I hate that I didn’t make my schools’ improv team, even though I would of hated it if I did happen to make it. I hate it that I haven’t got a part in a play since eighth grade. I dislike that the only things I’m involved in includes everyone else. I love being alone.

I hate that I have no one to talk to, I hate all this. I have a lot of friends and loved ones. Don’t get me wrong. They just wouldn’t like what I share. Not Nick, not my friends, not my parents.
No one.

Hello Jenna,

Welcome to YWS! I hope you like it here better than in high school, cuz there sure seems to be a lot of hatin going on in your part of the country. Don't worry about the driving. I just had my first accident (I've been fearing it for four years) so I know what you mean. But it wasn't that bad. Constant vigilance! That said, it's nice to meet you, well, cybernetically anyway. :) There's a lot to like about YWS; I could probably write a couple of pages on how much it's helped me, but the best thing is that this is a community for people who love to write and love to read what other people have written. So the best advice I can give you is to just jump on in and start reviewing, posting, and making yourself to known to the other YWSers. We like to write reviews--well most of us anyway--and we're all pretty friendly when it comes down to it. We all help each other grow as artists, whether we prefer poetry, novels, short stories, photography, or art in general. I like to think of YWS as my giant cyber souding board and ego-controller. Hope this helped in some way! I look forward to seeing more of your posts and if you ever need anything just send me a PM or leave a message on my wall! :)

Happy Writing!
Bailey

PS Who's Nick? :) (We're also incurably curious.)

Howdy Jenna :D
I second everything Baywolf had to say about YWS, and I hope you have lots of good experiences here.
Though as part of this site is doing reviews, there is one thing I have to say about your piece of writing that kind of irked me:
While America is generally refered to as a 'melting pot', the 'tossed salad' comparison is generally made about Canada; this is because people tend to sterotype Americans as being all the same (like the combined and melted down contents of a melting pot), or, 'Americanized', while Canada is stereotyped as being home to many traditions, ideals, and cultural backgrounds (i.e. made of different components like a tossed salad).
In your bio-type thing, you've called your state as well as town and school a 'tossed salad', in an attempt to define how it's hard to be unique and everyone tends to be the same - the exact opposite of what the metaphor 'tossed salad' is supposed to mean!
Well, that's it, hope you have a great time here, and meet some people who do like what you do,
Canni ^__^
The remainder is, An unjustifiable, egotistical, power struggle, At the expense of the American Dream.

Yes, Canni I am doing reviews as well as posting my works! :) I've noticed that we have the exact same ammount of reviews, so good job.
Thank you for your information. I just had a disscusion in class whether America was a melting pot or a salad bowl. My point in this biography is that I feel like every one is trying to be different, and it's difficult to be different when everyone is. I understand Canada has achieved beinga salad bowl, but America thrives to be that way.

Also, what do you mean by

I think that's what cannibalcorpse3 meant. As in, people with whom you share interests. :) Which is also a hope we share in common.

Yep, Baywolf got what I meant, sorry for the confusing sentence :P
And okey dokes, I see what you mean with the whole tossed salad thing, that's a standpoint I've never really thought much about before, awesome job bringing it up :)
It's kind of a sad thing that I've only got five reviews even though I've been here since the springtime, but good for you for five in just two days :O!
I feel bad sometimes, being a critic, but most of the time I just understand why people wrote things the way they did and feel bad telling them to change it :/
Well, maybe we'll meet up again on this site, bye for now :)
