Envied Childhoods

One minute write. Darker than usual.

Thanks for reading.

I envy the people
who look back on their lives
and wish that they lived in the past
that they could go back
and relive each moment
again and again and again,
watching that loveliness with
brilliantly fond eyes.

I too wish I had memories
that were sweet and pure,
simpler times, with simple wants
where smiles were smiled
and laughs were laughed.

I wish I had a childhood,
one where I could have been a child
and tossed away the darks,
defeated monsters under the bed,
rather than the real ones instead.
I wish I had innocence,
and knew nothing of the world.

I wish that there were more glimpses
of finger-painting and unicorns
than the raw eyes, tired of tears,
and a face smelling of salt.
I’m tired of remembering hurts
that slap me upside the head
whenever I delve into what’s been.

I’m tired of phrases
sparking sounds and speeches
given by those who never really cared,
not when they were supposed to.

I’m tired of wanting to forget the past
and start over.

I’m sick of seeing smiles
and remembering how little I had of them.

Darker than almost anything I've written before. In a somewhat awful mood.
This was like a one-minute write. More of a rant than anything else.

Hey,
I am sorry that you are/were in a bad mood. I hope things have gotten better. I really enjoyed this. i'm not the best at reviewing poems, so I will praise you and go on. :) It could use punctuation to give breaths in the stanzas, but that's ust my opinion.

Have a good day,
Tiffany

This is very emotional, and I just happened to read this right when I was having a couple of bad memories about my childhood, so you got to my feelings at a perfect time.

I'm not completely sure what this is really about, but that's what I like about it. At first, I thought it was simply about jealousy, as if you envied the people who could look back on an actual childhood, a very short period of time filled with innocence, joy, and lack of knowledge. Maybe I thought of it that way because that was how I was feeling.

but the more I read it, the more it changes. I'm sure the meaning is very solid to you, but to me, it is a complete puzzle.

and don't take that as an insult! I love poetry like this, I love trying to decode something, to find out what it really is. I love the imagery, feeling, and descriptions. I am honestly shocked that you wrote this so quickly. you are very talented, please keep up the good work.
I want a lover I don't have to love.
