Sorry, it's been forever since I've posted. So, here you go.
We sat in our dignity
On the living room couch
He on the floor in front of me
I fiddling with his hair, not being a grouch.
Our friends were having a ball
This hangout was quite a good call
They were watching us in our own little universe
Where the age difference wasn’t perverse.
They dared me to kiss him, right on the cheek
I leaned in and did it, not taking a week
Surprised passed their faces, no fail at all
My smile showed through, all but small.
Andrew reciprocated, his sweetness showing through
Not caring about the looks given by his crew
He asked me out, right then and there
I answered yes, without much hesitation or care.
Our friends followed in, cracking some jokes
Marriage, kids, retirement they all croaked
Only we took it seriously
But caved in lightheartedly.
The next night, we left for our date, you see
Hoping to make it as fun as it could be
Eating at a restaurant called The Brick
Telling each other jokes for kicks.
And that was that.
He left for the tour, right off the bat
We faced our friends joking torment
But that date, in our minds, was set like cement.
Three years passed, I saw him once more
But we left the date like an open sore
It was heartbreak, like salting the wound that hadn’t yet healed
Pain was the only thing I could feel.
I tried and tried to cope
But it prevailed without hope
He stayed in my mind, like a tattoo
But of this, he had no clue.
When I turned eighteen, we met again
At a get together in Michigan
The second I saw him, the wound healed.
But the scar took forever to seal.
We continued to date
As if the past three years had been erased
For two years, we were together
Things seemed like they couldn’t get better.
But they did
He proposed to me and my smile was not hid
I said yes, ecstatically
As happy as a girl could be.
A year later, we were wed
Hugs and kisses were spread.
It was a happy day as you can tell
After three years of wretched hell
Heartbreak, pain, love, and sadness, are what I went through
But it was all worth it, for love rang true.
