o.k, alot of people will read this and wonder what it's all about. i think people who really like poetry will understand though.

I start my journey home,
Walking past daffodil bay,
Walk past a man drowning and not waving
And I fled down nights and down days

Past midnight moment’s forest,
Past lonely sea and sky.
I remember, I remember:
Where the river lie.

I’m halfway home to my house.
But Macavity won’t be there.
I’ll wonder lonely as a cloud.
And one day I’ll get there.

Hi there, thatboy! It's nice to meet you! ^__^

thatboy wrote:I start my journey home,
Walking past daffodil bay, I love these two lines. ^^
Walk past a man drowning and not waving
And I fled down nights and down days I'd say "As I fled down nights..." instead of "And I fled..."

Past midnight moment’s forest, Love this!
Past lonely sea and sky. Brilliant.
I remember, I remember:
Where the river lie. Very nice.

I’m halfway home to my house.
But Macavity won’t be there.
I’ll wonder lonely as a cloud, I think you mean wander, not wonder. If not, I think wander would fit better anyways.
And one day I’ll get there. Nice ending.

Overall:

This poem was pretty good. I am a huge fan of poetry, but I don't really know what you mean when you say only avid poets will understand this. I think if anyone digs deep enough, they can understand anything, hmm? Anyways. I rather like the flow you have going here. Other than that, I'd just watch out because sometimes you put a period where there should be a comma.

Still, nice work.

Ah, Mizzle, thatboy is referencing other works! T.S. Eliot's "Macavity," Stevie Smith's, "Not Waving but Drowning," and perhaps William Wordsworth's "Daffodils"; I'm not sure about the last one. Notice the title of the poem: "A Journey With the Greats: a montage of the masters." The greats and the masters of poetry!

To Thatboy:

A very nice poem, which I understood after only a little bit of research. I might recommend taking quotes from the poems you referenced (citing them, of course!) and putting them in italics at the top of the page; that way, even those who are not as interested in classic poetry can enjoy your work! :pirate3:
