In The Dark - Chapter 3
I was lying on the floor of my bedroom, still covering my face. I didn't get hit by a glass piece. It was awfully quiet. The lights were still off. I stood up, I pulled my hands away from my face to see in what state my room was. The windows were hollow, there was no more glass left on them. The glass pieces where scattered around my room. Little bit of light was coming in from the moon outside. I made my way, carefully, to my bedside table to get a torch.
I was shocked from everything that happened just couple of seconds ago. I didn't want to believe it. I knew it for the past week, that there's something mystical about the voice in my head and all the weird things that keep happening to me, but I admitted it to my self just now.
Now I regretted that I didn't have any shoes on. I found the torch, the light from it wasn't strong enough, the batteries are going to run out soon.
Using the torch I made my way out through the glass maze on my floor without any accidents.
All the windows on the corridor of the third floor where broken as well. I had to be careful, I didn't want to get hurt. I had to get to mum,dad and my brothers as soon as I could. We have to leave this house. I tried to walk as quietly as I could because I knew that the enemies were already inside.
The torch light flickered and then went out. I was standing on the stairs, there were no windows around me, I can't see a thing.
My heart started to beat frantically. I was scared to move. What if I fell? I would make everything easier for them, by killing my self. I wanted to cry, to let all my emotions out, I wanted to scream, to yell.
"Oh, listen to her thoughts, she's scared!" A woman's voice with Russian accent broke through the silence.
"Did you hear it Anzhela? She wants to get to her family quickly." Another woman's voice said.
"I think we can help her with that, can't we Bibiana? Lukas go and get her" the woman with the Russian accent said again.
I stood there looking around me, but all I saw was darkness. I Hugged my self tightly. My whole body was trembling from the fear I felt. I was waiting for the person, well Lukas as Anzhela named him, to come and get me.
Few seconds after the woman with a Russian accent, whose name I assumed is Anzhela finished talking, something or someone picked me up, then crushed me to his chest and started to move again. I didn't hear his steps. In a blink of an eye, we were on the ground floor.
He put me down. I felt dizzy. I thought I was going to get sick. I stumbled, I was preparing I was going to hit the floor but then someone caught me, I mean Lukas caught me.
How did we get down here so quickly? His speed was inhuman.
He lifted me up again and carried me into the living room. Again with such an unhuman speed. But this time when he let me down he did it gently, he kept holding my hands behind my back. I haven't seen his face yet but I felt an urge to turn around.
The fire was burning in the fireplace. Mum was sitting on the sofa holding Jake and Jamie tightly to her. Dad was lying on the floor unmoving. Panic washed through my body. I tried to run towards dad but the boy behind me pulled me back. Then I noticed five other figures beside the window. They were all pale white and all their actions every move they made was unhumanly fast. Then I noticed I knew two figures from the group beside the window.
Kate and Holy!?!
"Thank you Lukas" Anzhela the woman with the Russian accent said.
"So, we finally meet Zoey Hawthorne" she said with laughter.
"Kate?.....Holy?....What?.....Why?" I said wanting to sound brave but instead the words came out as a trembling whisper.
Kate and Holy moved towards me with an arrogant smirk on their faces.
"Oh...Oh...poor Zoey, standing here all alone, scared for her life" Kate said. I looked at her in disbelief. Kate and Holy have been my best friends since kindergarten.
"Well, it's actually all your fault, you were always the perfect one everyone loved you, it was too easy for them to get us on their side, and we surely don't regret it, we are powerful now, we can get anything we want..." Holy said with a grin.
"What about your parents?" I said, I didn't want to believe them, I didn't want to believe that they joined the bad side.
"Oh, we killed them, they were too annoying, now we have freedom and immortality" they laughed out at the same time.
They killed their parents? No this can't be happening. What did they mean by immortality. Just then I noticed Kate's teeth, she had fangs, sharp, white fangs.
I shook my head. This can't be happening. I must be hallucinating. They can't be vampires, hello this is twenty-first century.
I mouthed the word vampires.
"We are vampires, as you already noticed." Anzhela said. Just at the same time Anzhela and the two other vampires appeared right in front of me.
"And you dear Zoey belong partly to our world...but your birth was a mistake and your mother got punished for that..." Anhzela said.
"What do you mean punished? Mum is okay, she's sitting right there!" I whispered.
"Oh, they didn't tell you yet? They're not your real parents...they adopted you..." Anzhela said looking right into my eyes.
Adopted? I was adopted? I'm not theirs? I felt puzzled, confused, scared. Whose child am I then?
