A pen in my hand,
A crumpled napkin in front of me,
An idea forming.
Quickly i jot the idea down,
Before I lose it forever.
Some people think writing is just for entertainment.
But it's much more.
Feelings vent onto paper,
Slowly pain melts away.
Writing is a form of therapy.
Giving a person a way to express themselves.
Tears fall onto scrap of paper,
As a memory is written away.
Pain, sorrow, misery,
But also the happy moments of joy,
Become something more.
In the mind things are constricted,
But on paper they grow.
Blossom into something new.
A poem about a heart break.
A story about love.
A script of history,
Of memories and wishes.
Sometimes they are just ideas,
But slowly something of yourself
Sinks into the paper.
Whether a feeling,
Or a part of your heart and soul.
It rests on the paper,
Waiting for others to read.
Writing is a form of therapy.
Its a way that everybody listens
To what is happening
Inside.
Try smiling in the rain. When you are sad. It's harder than it looks.

Hi,

This flows nicely. I like the description in the first five lines. It's lovely and vivid.

After that I think this gets a bit too abstract. Rather than using phrases like "part of your heart and soul" and directly telling the reader what the speaker's attitude to writing is, I'd suggest it through imagery.Rather than saying, for example that "writing is a form of therapy" you could use similes and metaphors to show how the speaker feels about it.

The best thing you can do is read poetry. "No Bliss Like This" "A Fine Statement" and "In Flander's Fields" are some favourites of mine.

Hope this helps,

Jas

Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise."

I agree with Jas - more imagery would be AWESOME!!! And I LOVED the title - I am a big fan of quirky titles - so well done :D.

I like the metaphor of 'writing is a form of therapy'. But currently, the poem reads more like a speech, that's had its formatting changed to turn it into something that looks like a poem. I found it too literal for a poem in places. I think you can expand on the metaphor a LOT - I mean, think about it...you could just not mention the word 'poem' in the poem, and then you could get carried away describing the doctor's clinic in your mind, and how you're waiting in the waiting room, and what the nurse says etc etc and then finish off with a hint that it is poetry that is your balm, so to speak.

Lovely idea, and I'd be interested in seeing what you end up re-editing it as!
