Murdered before it lived.

I know this isn't exactly how an abortion happens, but I liked it too much to change it.

The tears drop like tiny waterfalls,
one on each side of her face.
Her arms are wrapped around her knees,
her head is down.
“It can’t be,”
she whispers,
“No.”
She refuses to believe.
“It must be wrong.
This can’t happen to me.”
The thing inside her must die.
It is what she decides.
Two months,
maybe three,
she goes to the building with the red plus sign.
“It’ll be easy,”
they say.
“You won’t feel a thing.”
She smiles,
it’s the first in a while.
The surgeon with a scalpel in his hand,
enters the womb with cold hands.
The thing was tiny,
no bigger than a hand.
It was still breathing when it reached land.
A needle was injected into its living body.
It burned, scathing the soft warm flesh.
It’s been a while since that day,
since its life was taken away.
They were wrong about what she would feel.
They never told her about the anger and the pain.
They never told her she would regret what she’d done.
She rues that day she killed her child,
when she took its life with a happy smile.
She knows she would never kill someone,
but she murdered her child back then when it was a fetus.
She is lit up in guilt,
just like how her baby was lit up in flames.
The saddest thing is that she knows she’s the one to blame,
she’s the one who took someone’s chance at life away.
There is only one thing sadder,
it’s the fact that it happens everyday.

A person is still a person even if he/she is not born yet. If it is wrong to kill a person, what makes it right to kill small people, people who are not born yet? Controversial subjects can make or break a poem, story, etc., and you might get negative or mixed reviews partially because of that. I thought it was a decent poem, though. It's my opinion that you might do better making this into a short story rather than putting it into a poem. It's just something that's so deep it's hard to cover so quickly. I didn't find much rhythm or anything, but I suppose it isn't needed either. Overall, a decent poem that could possibly use some improvements.

You did a good job on this, it actually has changed my views on abortion.
