Invisible Children

Hey, guys!
Today this group called "Invisible Children" came to my church youth group, and they were awesome. When I first heard about Invisible Children, I guessed it must be something to do with kids in school who are teased or something, but maaaan, I was off. Invisible Children travels across America to raise awareness about the war in Uganda, where a rebel leader is kidnapping children in their pre-teen years and forcing them to be soldiers. Anyone who tries to escape is killed and some of these kids have seen their own siblings die. The war has been going on for around twenty years, I believe, and not many people know about these children because no records are kept.
Invisible Children is doing their part to end this war /peacefully/ so that the children can be released and brought back to their parents.

I just sounded so preachy, didn't I? Well, if I did, I'm sorry. I'm just sort of freaked about all this and I wanted to try and do my own little part to raise awareness.

I was at their Rescue event in Chicago last April! It was AMAZING even though we got monsooned on and froze! My roommate and I ended up having to leave early because all our gear was completely soaked through. Chicago didn't get rescued for over a week...they were sleeping in churches and parking garages because the Chicago PD kicked them out of Grant Park. Eventually, they ended up on Oprah, and now the whole nation knows about it! GO CHICAGO!

Seriously? That's amazing! =D Man, I wish I could have been there. xD I'm used to being soaked to the bone, after all the English hikes my dad took me on.

Oh Damn, =( well, at the risk of sounding ignorant, i honestly had no idea of anything happeneing in Uganda, i knew there was some kind of militant thing happening in Africa, but I'm not sure which part, there was actually something in the newspaper about militant africans who had surrendered their weapons, like they all had green berets on and big chains of bullets around them.

Aha, just looked it up, it was rebels in Nigeria.

Hey, just thought I'd mention that we had some of the people from Invisible Children drop in during our training camp for a social justice/fundraising organisation I work for. They were amazing people and certainly knew what they were talking about, and their cause is certainly one worth pursuing.
Not to sound like a testimonial or anything.
It was also great to see (an american based group I'm pretty sure) come all the way down to Adelaide Australia to talk to a bunch of uni students about their cause.

Woohoo, more Invisible Children fans! I took part in The Rescue last year; an AMAZING experience. My friend actually got to travel to Uganda for a month, stay in an IDP refugee camp, and see the schools that IC is working with. Pretty awesome.

There is a ton of action in Congress and the Senate with new legislature. Slowly but surely, we're getting the word out!

The people who do this are sick! They're only children! Those kids need to be freed, then mentally helped. I doubt anyone could come out of that mentally stable. Poor kids.
