Okay I think your biggest problem is the page layout. Put it in set columns so you're not hugging the images. The font's too big and the spacing inbetween isn't fit for the form. I'd also suggest boxing your captions aswell and perhaps displaying them in a far clearer font.
I'd also cut down on the number of images it isn't right for an article to have so many. Perhaps when you reduce the font size there will look to be less writing but from a glance it's too long. ALso you need to watch for page breaks as this disrupts texts easily.

Give it a good thorough edit.

The content was good and I liked how you included the references but this is only really needed if you're submitting it to a magazine/publisher/newspaper or as school work. Remove it if you're merely presenting a column.
