So my next door neighbor. He’s fifteen, like me, and totally gorgeous. And, of course, extremely popular. He has dark brown, almost black, curly hair, just past the tips of his ears. His eyes are pale, pale blue. His teeth are perfectly straight, and white, unlike mine. He’s a good six inches taller than me too. And my favorite thing about him is the small J-shaped scar, just above his upper lip. He is Dominic Graedy, and I am completely in love with him.
The craziness of the summer started in June, the day after school let out. I noticed a vehicle in the driveway across the street. A ‘sold’ sign was taped over the ‘for sale’ sign that had been there since the end of April. So, of course, I went over to see who my new neighbor was.
I rang the doorbell and stepped back. A moment later, a little boy opened the door. He looked about seven or eight.
“Mom!” he called. A voice came from somewhere in the house.
“Mom’s busy, you brat, what do you want?” a girl came around the corner. She looked about my age, but much prettier than me. She had long blonde hair, pulled back into a ponytail. She came to the doorway as the boy ran off.
“Hi, I’m Parker Carrington,” I said, “I live across the street.” I pointed to my house.
“Hey,” the girl said smiling. She had a perfect smile. “I’m Rae-Anne Keller.”
“Nice to meet you,” I said.
“Nice to meet you too, “she smiled, “I would ask you to come in, but it’s a mess in here.” She rolled her hazel eyes.
“You can come to my place,” I said.
When we walked in the front door of my house, Rae-Anne did what everyone else always does when they come over.
“Mmmm,” she said, “I smell cookies.” My mom bakes cookies all the time. It’s like an addiction. She should go to Cookies Anonymous or something. I rolled my eyes.
“Come upstairs,” I said, walking toward the stairs. Rae-Anne followed me to my bedroom.
My room is just amazing. Well, I think so anyway. The walls are bright pink and orange. A few months ago, I convinced my mom to let me get a queen sized bed. There’s not much room leftover in the room. But there’s a lot of room to stretch out at night. One day, I got bored and wrote song lyrics all over the walls. It’s sort of tacky, but I love it anyway.
Rae-Anne and I had been sitting in my room for less than two minutes when we heard something hit the window. I jumped up and walked over to the window and cranked it open. Dominic was standing on my front lawn, rock in hand. Good thing he didn’t break the window, I thought.
“Hey neighbor,” he called. I smiled.
“Hey, what’s up?” I asked. He shrugged and put his hands in his pockets.
“Want some company?” he asked. “I’m craving cookies.” I laughed.
“Sure, come on over.” He smiled and started toward my front door. Then I remembered Rae-Anne.
“Who was that?” she asked, “Your boyfriend?”
“I wish,” I sighed. I fell back onto my bed.
“What’s so great about him?” she asked, sitting down beside me.
“You’ll see,” I said. I heard Dominic coming down the hall. I looked at Rae-Anne to see her reaction when he came in the door.
“Mmmm,” Dominic said, coming in the door, cookie in hand, chocolate on his face. Roseanne’s eyes widened. Bingo, I thought. I looked at Dominic.
“Oh, you have a friend over,” he said, wiping the chocolate off his face.
“Hi,” Rae-Anne said, giggling, “I’m Rae-Anne. Rae-Anne Keller.” She smiled.
“Dominic Graedy,” he said, “Pleased to meet you.” He took a step toward her. Here it comes, I thought. He took her hand and kissed the back of it. There it is. Every time. She giggled again, her eyes sparkling.
See, every time Dominic meets a girl he kisses the back of her hand. I remember when we met. It felt like sparks going from my hand all the way up my arm. I’ve been in love with him since then.
so what do you think? i'm only 14 so don't be too harsh with the criticism. thanks.
