Let the Number be X

Of all our open wonders,
the one that wounds us most –
how this relentless Music
outlives us and our ghost.

And all the unknown factors
rejoiced at Sofia’s gate
that their own variability
was not a permanent state.

The capability of the negative
is in its very potential
to fill up its own vacancy
and from variable become real.

As the poet learnt at his play pen,
in wonderment and in ‘what-comes-next’,
the unpredictable is endless,
so let the number be X.
What syllable are you seeking,
Vocalissimus,
In the distances of sleep?
Speak it.
—Wallace Stevens, “To the Roaring Wind”

I thought this was good. I mean, I've read poems about variables before, but whatever.
I really liked how you didn't repeat 'so let the number be x' or mention the variable anywhere else in your poem but the end. Some poets get off track and add the line every four lines or something like that.
Your poem didn't flow as greatly as I would want it to. Your 11th and 12th lines, mostly. They are just not beautiful, and don't sound right.
All around good job, though!

pretty nice there plant kid(yeah what of it?).. i did enjoy this... how you didn't just make a vague poem of nothingness... but you gave different ideas of what it isn't and how it came to be in such a small amount of lines.

and i am glad you didn't use any actual numbers...like a mathematic poem or something along those lines.

write more there Budd...I'll be waiting.

Paaaaalantalid.

I've missed your work. Your fluent style, seemingly effortless creativity. It's great to see something of yours 'round here.

This is good. Perhaps it's the rhyme, but I don't find it as interestingly striking as some of your other work, but in saying that, don't get me wrong. This is good stuff.

You do excellently with poetic devices here. Your rhyme is beautiful, perfect, on even meter, creating a most beautiful rhythm. I'm just more for poems that don't lay on rhyme, where the poem takes rhyme by the arm and walks along side it.

You border that here. It's a good rhyming, you still have your unique style of poetry running through here, and that is fantastic. Math reference was nicely added, as well-- not often that I see references-- especially common ones- used to so naturally in writing that it doesn't disrupt any flow at all.

You, monsieur, are genuine at poetry.

Keep writing, and keep posting, because a while without Pal poetry is bad. Very bad.

Best of luck,
June
