Vanessa flipped her black hair and took off to the sky. She flew over mountains and grassy plains, oceans and rivers, but she could not find her destination: Heaven. Lucifer had told her she could find it easily, to just trust her instincts, but he had lied. Again.
Her dark wings grew tired, so she stopped at the nearest city: Galveston, Texas. She landed on a piece of land in the ocean, only 50 feet from the beach, then swam 5 feet. She went above and under the water pretending to drown.
"Help! Help!" she gurgled, sounding helpless as possible. There were shouts and screams so Vanessa turned around to see a shark not three feet away from her. Smiling wickedly, she murmured to him in shark tongue and told him to attack. He swam, furious and hungry, toward a 5 year old girl wading in the shallows, then grabbed her leg and dragged her under, screaming and bloody. When the girl disappeared with him in the deep waters, people ran around screaming and crying.
Though she wanted to go to heaven, she had to sin. It was in her nature to do so, and she would die eternally if she didn't. Sin... Without it she would cripple up and die, as all demons would.

A boy, a teenager of about 17, swam up to her and, grabbing her across the breasts, dragged her to the shore. Vanessa coughed up water she had swallowed to add effect, then got up, thanking the boy, and started walking away. Vanessa, using her devil given talents, wooed the boy physically and and bent him to her will.

"Wait! Do you have a place to stay?" He asked her. When she nodded no he asked if she would like to stay at his place.
"If your girlfriend doesn't mind," she started with an innocent smile. She felt him hesitate at that, so she physically made him unconcerned.
"She just moved out to go to college," he said with pleasure. Vanessa agreed and, after exchanging names, they went to his house.
~~~~~*~~~~~
His house looked like the normal leave-the-house-Early's house; an apartment room. With only one bed, a T.V., a laptop, table, and chair it was a cramped, tight room.
Perfect for committing sin, Vanessa thought with another wicked smile.
"I'll sleep on the floor so you can have the bed," The boy, Trent she had learned, said courteously. Vanessa smiled her sexiest smile and started to slowly take her shirt off. Again, she used her physic powers.
"Or we could share." Trent gave her a wide eyed look and said,
"Okay," while slipping off all of his clothes and jumping in bed. Oh what wonderful sins, she thought joyously.
Male mortals are such hos, they don't even have enough conscience to care about sleeping with another woman while they have a girlfriend, Of course, it was just a joke, since it was her who was making him do so. Then she shed off the rest of her clothes and got into the bed.
~~~~~*~~~~~

"You have a tattoo," Trent said, sounding dazed.
"Yes," said Vanessa, stroking his face possessively. She knew it was wrong, but she couldn't help but like him a little bit. She bit her lip. I shouldn't be like this. I shouldn't like him this way, Vanessa thought unhappily. It was true; she had never liked a mortal this way. She had never felt this way ever.But... Maybe I'm in... She cut her thoughts short before they entered unwanted territory.
"I have to go, Trent dear," she said, feeling tears sting her eyes as she looked into Trent's sky blue ones.
"But...!" he started to argue. It was too late for arguing, because Vanessa had wiped his memory and made him fall asleep with her physic powers.
"Goodbye, my dear," she murmured before leaving the apartment room to the dark, unlit beach.

She sat on the soft beach sand and looked up at the cloudy, dark sky, pondering her existence, when her thoughts were interrupted by a dark, deep voice rumbling from the ground.
"Vanessa, you have been a very naughty girl."

*****~*****

This starts a few hours before Trent 'rescues' Vanessa then continues after that.
Angela is an angel, her Lord is God, and Lucifer is the devil.
Angela flew over the hills and plains of Heaven and, golden hair flapping in the wind, finally reached her Lord's throne. She landed in front of it, blue eyes shining with excitement, then Cooley walked up to him. Bowing in his presence, she asked,
"You have requested my presence, my Lord?" He smiled gently at her, his jade green eyes sparkling also.
"Yes, my child, I have a job for you. One of the most important jobs an angel like yourself could have." He cupped his mocha hands and lowered them so she could see, then opened them. In his hands was a small orb that had an image of a boy with black hair and blue eyes staring up at them, though he clearly didn't see them. The Lord paused to let her look a bit longer then spoke up,
"His name is Trent. You are to watch him and take care of him, make sure no evil touches him. If so happens then Lucifer may win the war yet. Do you understand the importance of this boy?" Angela suddenly became serious and nodded quickly. If Lucifer won the war then all chaos would break loose, and one mortal was the one who hung the balance between chaos and goodness. To top it all off, she was the keeper of said mortal.
"Yes my Lord," She said frowning.
"Go check up on him soon, I have a feeling that something will be happening," Her Lord said. The Lord was all-knowing, so, of course, Angela quickly flew off after her Lord told her where to go.

~~~~~*~~~~~
Trent had some problems. He had moved out of his parents' house right after he had gotten his driver's licence and a job. Currently, he was living in a trashy apartment with prostitutes crawling all over the place and had a bad roach infestation. He had spent all of his money he had saved up on a laptop, love seat, coffee maker, and a second bed. Plus, he was a seventeen year old high school drop out. Angela sighed and thought, I have a lot of work to do.
She knocked on his door and, after playing some mind tricks to make him think they had been dating for a year and that she had just graduated from high school, walked in his room.
"Hi Trent," she greeted him when she walked into his semi-dark room. He turned around and smiled at her.
"Oh, hi Angela. I didn't' know that you were coming back so soon." Angela smiled back at him as warmly as possible. She had also made him think that they had been living there together for 10 months. Trent thought that Angela had been off looking for a college to go to, so, thinking quick she said,
"Yep. I decided on Harvard University." Trent looked taken aback.
"Harvard?" He asked incrediously, putting his arm around her shoulders. "But that's in Cambridge Massachusetts! Hundreds, maybe even thousands of miles away!" Angela smiled at him softly.
"Don't worry, i'll visit you everyday," she comforted him.
"But how are you going to..." Trent started, but Angela cut him off.
"Let me worry about that. I have to go now Trent. I have to get over there before they decide that i'm not coming." Trent started to argue, but Angela gave him a quick kiss on the cheek then left before he could. She walked through the murky hallway and walked out the door, so she could spread her glowing golden wings and take off upward to her home in heaven.
Tell me what you think of it! :D It's my first one so be cruel and rip it to peices!
Hey. This was an interesting idea and I enjoyed reading it. I don't want to go into grammar details, but there are a few things I had problems with.
Well, the main thing is the realisticness of the whole thing. I mean, this boy is going to ask this random girl that he only knew for, like, two seconds to stay at his house? And they sleep together? I mean, really. That just doesn't happen. I think you should add more to who this Lucifer is and why she wants to go to heaven, but sins anyways. I think more detail would be nice.
Also, what happened to the little girl? Wouldn't there be more of a commotion if a shark attacked her?
It was nicely written and original. But, I think it could be improved with more detail, and making it more realistic. Maybe we should learn more about Trent and what Vanessa thinks about him before they just decide to randomly be roommates. I don't think Trent would leave his girlfriend that easily.
Nice work. And good luck. (:
Well, Vanessa is a demon/ angel damned to hell and Lucifer is the devil. Vanessa lives on sins, since she is a demon, and can influence people's thoughts and actions, and she uses that infuential power to make people sin so she won't cripple and cease to exist.
I liked it. I think you should make it longer and add more detail. But other than that it was great. I think you hsould describe Trent more. Like his eyes, hair, ecx. If you write more message me!
First of all let me say I love the story and I hope that you add on to it! :P
On to the Nitpicks.
"Help! Help!" she gurgled, sounding helpless as possible.
I don't know what it is, but something sound almost awkward about the "as possible" part, try taking it out and see if that helps any.
There were shouts and screams so Vanessa turned around to see a shark not three feet away from her.
Um... why don't you try this?
:arrow: There were shouts and screams and Vanessa turned around, only to see a shark not three feet away from her.
A boy, a teenager of about 17, swam up to her and, grabbing her across the breasts, dragged her to the shore.
Take out this part:
, grabbing her across the breasts,
It's really awkward to me. ;/
Vanessa, using her devil given talents, wooed the boy physically and and bent him to her will.
Isn't physically supposed to be mentally? And why don't you change it to something like this?
:arrow: While walking away she, using her devil given talents, wooed the boy mentally and bent him to do her will.
She felt him hesitate at that, so she physically made him unconcerned.
Again, mentally.
Oh what wonderful sins, she thought joyously.
Remove this from the story.
The rest seemed good enough. Sorry if I ripped it to shreds!! :D Check out some of my stories sometime in the fantasy fiction forum!! :D
Hey there! EmmaJane here with a review for you!
Nitpicks!
only 50 feet from the beach, then swam 5 feet.
Ah! Numbers should be written out (unless they're stupidly-long ones).
: ...only fifty feet ... swam five feet.
It sounds better, more professional.
She went above and under the water pretending to drown.
Sounds odd. Describe the movement. Did she thrash? Bob about in the water?
Commas have been missed too. Comma after "water" as the water isn't pretending to drown, right? :wink:
"Help! Help!" she gurgled, sounding helpless as possible.
I agree with taytay that this sounds weird. Yet it's easily corrected. (not by taking out the last bit).
: "Help! Help!" she gurgled, trying to sound as helpless as possible.
See? I guess she's devious and pretending to drown.
There were shouts and screams so Vanessa turned around to see a shark not three feet away from her.
Taytay's example sound better, but I would keep the "so" and not used the "and" as it would be too repetitive.
toward a 5 year old girl
'Five' not '5'.
Also, I think "toward" should be "towards".
wading in the shallows
Yeah, uh, and then this shark attacked her? Okay, it was told to, but sharks will not swim in shallow water, only a specific type will, but I forgot their name. If you're thinking Great White - won't happen.
I, uh, have to go right now ^^' but will resume my review tomorrow! Promise!
Laters,
You're = Omission. You're quite strange...
If you are confused about which to put, simply say in your mind "you are" and see if that fits the sentence. If not, you are looking for your.
Ha ha! I'm back to finish my review!
So, where was I? Ah...
Without it she would cripple up and die
Cripple up? I believe the expression is "curl up and die" yet I can understand why you'd prefer "cripple", but I think it sounds strange...
a teenager of about 17
Again! "Seventeen" instead of "17".
Also, the "teenager" part is redundant as we can guess he's a teenager from the rough age you've given him.
swam up to her and, grabbing her across the breasts, dragged her to the shore.
Wtf? Sorry, but he sounds like a pervert with this description. If I was Vanessa, boy, would I have slapped him one.
: swam up to her and, grabbing her across her chest, dragged her to the shore.
Vanessa coughed up water she had swallowed to add effect, then got up, thanking the boy, and started walking away.
So, I like the cleverness of the swallowed water being coughed up, but she walks away??? I'm pretty sure she would fake being at least a little shaky. If you want her to walk away then describe how she did so. Maybe she staggered away.
Vanessa, using her devil given talents, wooed the boy physically and and bent him to her will.
Thought she was walking away? Perhaps say how he stopped her.
I agree with taytay how it should be "mentally" rather than physically. Physically = body. Mentally = mind. Emotionally = emotions.
Also, "devil-given".
And say HOW! Don't tell us what she did, SHOW us what she did.
When she nodded no he asked if she would like to stay at his place.
Dude! Nodding is saying yes! A negative answer is where you shake your head.
: When she shook her head, he asked is she would like to stay at his place.
so she physically made him unconcerned.
"Mentally" rather than "physically".
HOW??
You, as the writer, might see every scene clearly, yet we readers know only what you've written.
leave-the-house-Early's
Excuse me?
The boy, Trent she had learned, said courteously.
Lowercase "t" on "the".
Comma after "Trent".
she used her physic powers.
Physic? Psychic, I think you mean.
"Or we could share." Trent gave her a wide eyed look and said,
"Okay," while slipping off all of his clothes and jumping in bed
Should be:
"Or we could share."
Trent gave her a wide eyed look and said "Okay", while slipping off all of his clothes and jumping in bed.
As at first I thought Trent had said it.
She had never felt this way ever.But...
Typo - space needed between "ever" and "But".
Maybe I'm in...
Why's she in love? We've seen nothing of Trent, other than him being her sex puppet. Let a little personality shine through first, then maybe we'd care a little bit more about him.
Why do you have a section of it as a spoiler? Surely it should become clear later on in the story? Don't worry, your readers are patient (most of the time). ^^ You can hint at it in the story.
Sorry if I sound a little grouchy. I'm tired. :( Maybe I'll review your "before" section later. But, what I have so far:
:smt023 Showing and Telling:
Okay. You're descriptive, but a few parts I thought could have used a little more explanation. Like the mind-controlling thing, how does that work? A sly glance up into his eyes? A touch on his arm, like a static shock? What happens?
You may hear the phrase "showing vs telling" quite a bit here... You're new, right? If so: welcome! ^^ YWS is perfect place to come to and improve - and, possibly, get a little crazier...
But yes, back to the review.
Telling: he picked up his jacket from the ground.
Showing: With a growl of frustration, he bent down and plucked his jacket from the golden carpet of leaves.
Which sounds better? And which would you like to read more? :wink:
:smt023 Plot:
I like the (twist) with the second part. Angela having to protect Trent...
My thoughts: perhaps you could have the first part with Angela as the prologue. Then the second part, ending with him saying he'd like to go to the beach or whatever. Then Vanessa's POV. Just a thought, as it is your story.
But I can see potential with this, just ... avoid cliches.
:smt023 Characters:
Vanessa is devious. Angela is angelic. Trent is.. hmmm. Oh dear. A puppet. I must say, I prefer Vanessa out of all of 'em. Probably because you've described her thoughts and feelings a little more than the others. I am character centered. I love reading personalities and such, especially via dialogue.
:smt023 Overall:
Mmm. The part with the shark... was it really necessary? I get you're showing Vanessa's "evil" side, but I thought it was a little... over the top. Maybe if you'd describe the horror and shock a little more, and hadn't appeared to immediately forget about the shark and the little girl as soon as Vanessa was rescued, then it would have been okay.
Aside from that, this has great potential. Please do PM me if any more should be posted. :wink:
I'll try not to be so tired and abrupt.
PM me if you have questions or anything. :mrgreen: Keep on writing.
NITPICKS:
"Help! Help!" she gurgled, sounding as helpless as possible.
"Wait! Do you have a place to stay?" He asked her.
I noticed that you do this a lot throughout the piece. If there is a tag after the dialogue, it should never be capitalized unless it is a name.
When she nodded no he asked if she would like to stay at his place.
Shook her head no would make more sense.
She felt him hesitate at that, so she physically made him unconcerned.
She messes with him a lot, but you never tell us how she does this. The fact that you never describe her antics makes this telling.
His house looked like the normal leave-the-house-Early's house; an apartment room.
It's not a house, then. It's an apartment.
"I'll sleep on the floor so you can have the bed," The boy, Trent she had learned, said courteously.
Lower-case t.
Male mortals are such hos, they don't even have enough conscience to care about sleeping with another woman while they have a girlfriend, Of course, it was just a joke, since it was her who was making him do so.
She's messing with him. How can she judge him whe he's not himself?
She knew it was wrong, but she couldn't help but like him a little bit. She bit her lip. I shouldn't be like this. I shouldn't like him this way, Vanessa thought unhappily. It was true; she had never liked a mortal this way. She had never felt this way ever.But... Maybe I'm in...
She doesn't even know him because this whole time she's been screwing with his head. How can this be possible? At this point, his weakness annoys me.
OVERALL:
I don't really understand the point of her stopping and pretending to drown. I get that she wants to be "naughty" or whatever, but the whole thing was kind of random. Maybe it's just that you're moving too fast through the story. I think that if you worked on this a little bit, the plot in this single chapter could stretch out into three and make this evenly paced and a pleasure to read.
I liked this one. It was very creative and the grammar, well, you shouldn't worry. That will get better with time :wink: I'm not to well with it myself so I'm not one to talk. Anyway, I wasn't quite understanding how she knew Lucifer and how God played a role in it. You should have explained more her reason for wanting to go to heaven. As well, when you write your numbers like '50' you should spell it out like 'fifty'
Also, you did not talk about the boys 'real' girlfriend. If she made him think that she was his girlfriend, what about the other girl. How does she play into the whole story?
Well, other than that I really liked it and I'm eager for the next one. :D
Awesome. I don't know what it is DarkAngel but your work draws me into it. It's just so different. Edgey and dark but I definitely like it.
I loved how you rewrote the Demon thing. Like when you said that without sin they would cripple up and die. I could not re create that if I tried (being to the fact that I am indeed deathly phoebic of anything Satanic. Due to the Ouiija Board when I was 6. Let this be a warning to all...DON"T MESS WITH IT!)
Anyways, back to your story. Totally creative. I would recomend this to anybody who is into dark and edgey stuff. I have friends who would LOVE your writing. So if you ever get a major book deal, let me know and me and my friends shall totally buy them lol. Good luck. PM me when more is up please. Hey there!
I generally enjoyed the story and for the most part it kept me entertained. There are only a couple things that I have to nit-pick about though :)
First of all it never really explains why Vanessa starts to feel these feelings of love. Like all we know is that she sleeps with him and wakes up and then she gets these feelings. Maybe if there were a couple instances of something he says or does that makes her feel beyond normal attraction to him. Also, I'd love a clearer image of Trent.
The next part that doesn't really make sense for me is when you say (this happens a coupel hours before) If Angela was telling him her choice college, would she really leave on the same day? Especially since it says this happens a few hours before, and then it talks about Angela talking to God, and then about her telling Trent she's leaving. Maybe more romance in there?
These are all just suggestions really, although I think it'd be better if you cleared up a few things. Overall, nice work and I'm looking forward to more.
this is surprisingly a great idea, never read a story anout a demon actually falling in love with a boy. One thing I thought was off... first of all I think you should expand of course I sure you'll do that, but I really wanna get a sense for trent. I mean how can a demon fall in livoe with soemone, this person obviously has to have some amazing qualities. Please bring them to light, i'm that would imprpve your story tend fold. Also just my opinion, usually demons instead of actually taking control of someones else, they persuade them to do what they want. If you could make your demon girl more mischevious and creative in how she does things I'm sure your story would really be develop. Anyway just my opinion hopefully it helps. Looking forward to see what else you have to write.
