My Imagination
I gently placed my bag on the play ground and I sighed with a heavy breath, I turned to my left and realized where I was and where I was not. The sound of screaming adolescents rambling on about their dates, computer games and anything stereotypical about a male you can imagine. I felt a slight shiver as my friend placed his hand on my shoulder suggesting I should play a bit of handball. I chuckled slightly and gave him a cheerful response “not today “and stared at me for a moment and remembered that I never touched a hand-ball in my life. I was extremely clumsy and I didn’t want to play because each time I did I manage to do a back flip of some sort and wine like a girl afterwards. As my cliché group of friends gathered and lined up like military soldiers to have their turn at the game I just stood there and stared and wondered …’what am I doing here?’.
The background came intruding again ‘YEAHHH!!!! IN YOUR FACE’ and I placed my hands on my head as I began to push through the bodies which were in my way to escape this game...although I knew I was away from the game, I was still the same person. I sat down in a quite spot and thought about all the memories I left and the girl who gave up everything for me was still waiting for me to enter the school gates again.
Her name was Kelly, she was the most beautiful and elegant girl I’ve ever laid my eyes on. Her luminous black hair floated through the air with her scent expelling from her, the smell I’ve forgotten over 3 years ago. These images flooded my mind and I questions began to slip into my mind slowly
‘Is she dating someone else? Is she really waiting for me?’
My body began to sweat in fear and the uncertainty of the future and I needed to think this over carefully. It was the first time I was contemplating this decision and I needed to escape into my own world so I pulled out my MP3 Player and placed the slightly damaged ear phones in my ears. I looked towards the LCD screen as I shuffled though my songs and I found the one I was looking for. Mozart – Requiem 3rd movement, perfect I thought! I began to close my eyes and escape my reality…the school I am in right now is not where I belong. I belong back in my old school…where I felt happy every day. To know that there was someone looking forward to see me just because they loved me for who I was. My reality was staring to become darker as my mind was slowly slipping away into my fantasy; I exhaled my breath as I began to enter my perpetual fantasy where she was. Then I saw a story…it was a picture of me in a book. I reached out to grab the book which was aging beautifully with antiquity and took a closer look. It was a picture of a male, with black hair, brown eyes, medium build it was no doubt me. My hands were trembling and I knew this was a fantasy but it felt so real, was this really what was inside of me? My hands were shaking almost as if I had alsamizers disease, I could see my veins through my skin, it was wrinkly with freckles. I screamed out in confusion in my fantasy trying desperately to escape. I fell down to the ground with the book firmly held tight against my chest and I opened my eyes again and the fantasy suddenly turned into a nightmare. The darkness was consuming me and all I had was this one book. The book had to be the key to escape, this was no fantasy. I was becoming consumed with my desires for Kelly. I had to escape this before it was too late, I didn’t want to end up like those stalkers murder-suicide stories. I placed my hands firmly onto the book and flipped the cover it was a short dedication and it was inscribed with beautiful hand writing. It said:
‘In memory of Kelly’
I whispered slowly to myself with my breath truncated “oh no…did Kelly…no! no! no!” I knew what I had to do, I had to continue. If I left now, I would never forgive myself. Then a bright glimpse of light entered this fantasy…the darkness was fading and I had the strength to continue now. I opened the book and I began to read it to myself
“Chapter One-The Departure,
A boy I once knew left his school because he wanted what was best for the both of them. The boy had a girlfriend which he truly loved with all his heart and in return the girl loved him back. She knew this day was coming and so did he, the boy asked her several months ago, that he will be applying to a new school but she simply brushed It off because she though he wasn’t smart enough to get into there. But later she realized…he was…he did make it…and she won’t be able to see him for three years.”
I stared with strong contempt at the book and I stared up into the eternal damnation I was placed in, I realized the love I shared with Kelly when I was with her…she loved me with all her heart. I began to read the second chapter with more confidence.
“Chapter Two-The Strength,
The first year passed and usually the girl struggled more than the boy…but not in this case. The boy each day thought about her relentlessly, he missed her so much. Each day after school he would travel to her house but never too close for her parents to find out. He stared for hours and hours each day while doing his homework. He missed her terribly and she didn’t even notice…he tried desperately to contact her but they had no hope for communication. As time moved on the boy started to grow stronger and the visits became less frequent. Their exams were coming up…the exam which determined what would happen and whether they will be together each day. He began to study extremely hard and so did she…they studied very hard each single day. They began to try their hardest because they knew what was happening in the future. They didn’t want to let each other down; they had to do their best.”
I gave a smile small and held the book against my chest. I felt …somewhat happy. I flipped the page and began my next chapter.
“Chapter Three- The Power,
As the years passed, she had a confession to make. She wasn’t completely loyal to the boy. She felt as if she was missing out in life. The boy was devastated but he realized what she said was true; the boy spent his whole entire High School life wondering about this…He should have known. He gave a small smile to her and kissed her lightly on her cheek. They never saw each other again…”
My eyes began to grow in anger and I threw the book down onto the ground. My world began to spin all around me and suddenly the light which once appeared began to fade. I couldn’t stop here, I had to go on. I exhaled my breath and picked up the book once again.
“Chapter Four – The Temporary Goodbye,
They travelled the world and experienced life to its fullest…but…one thing was missing for the boy that is. The girl managed to become a woman. But the boy was still a boy, wanting to be with her. The woman had a boyfriend which made her pregnant and thought the man she met was the one. Only to realize a note on her door saying ‘Goodbye’ and to never see him again pained her heart. The boy spent his whole time watching over her, making sure everything was fine. But the only thing he could’t stop was the man who thought he loved her. He stared from the distance and watched her break down…The boy knocked on the door. She opened. They stared in each other eyes and she said “I’m Sorry.”. He gave a soft smile and hugged her. The woman gripped tightly onto the man. She cried all her troubles away onto his shoulder and he stood there giving her comforting words. The words she desired want wanted all her life”
I placed the floor gently onto the ground, and I thought to myself…If Kelly got pregnant with another man would I really raise the child? Do I really love her that much…I began to read again.
“Chapter Five – The Compromise,
…”
I stared at the ellipses.
It felt like hours.
Days…
Years…
Decades…
A life time…
I was the eternal alien which did not belong. I was an outsider.
I closed my eyes and I returned back to the reality I was in once again. I just gave a smile and walked off to class with a jubilant soul. I was happy in a way, sometimes we’re faced with something so very hard we have to make decisions which will affect our entire future. I knew I loved Kelly with all my heart. Even if she cheated on me, loved me, hurt me beyond imagination or gave me a purpose. She understood me and I didn’t feel like an alien. I belonged with her and I hope one day she will belong with me as well. Even if it’s a fantasy and she’s not really with me…a fantasy is good enough. As long as I’m not the alien which feels’ lonely. I’m happy I belonged.
