This is a true story about a boy I loved and still do love. I've written it as fiction because it makes a good story. I've changed the names for obvious reasons.

Half of You To Hold-Loving Someone Who Hates Himself

It was 11: 05 when he called me that day. I don't remember this because I am a whizz at remembering things. I remember it because I had to dash off to next lesson; and now, when I think about the significance of his questions that day, I wish I hadn't. I knew who it was before I answered-his name came up. Amazingly, despite the fact we had been broken up for seven moths by that point, my heart still leapt like a budgie confined in a cage when I saw his name.

"Hello?" I asked as gently as possible. He had called me several times recently; feeling insecure, uncertain, unloved and I had learnt to show him tenderness the way nobody else did.

"Sarah? Can I ask you something?" he said, cautiously.

"Anything" I replied, I hoped somewhere deep in my heart that he would ask me to be his girlfriend again, but I knew somewhere nearer my brain that such a thing would never happen.

"Do you think I'm fat?" he asked. I was dumbfounded at that question. I remembered everything about George's appearance. I remembered the seven shades of blue that filled his eyes. I remembered his skin, even paler than mine; his hair which was a shade of brown that was almost blonde. But I did not think of him as fat. Ever.

"No, of course not. You're not fat.....you're...normal" I said. I longed to say 'perfect', 'gorgeous' or even more recklessly, 'the love of my life', but that would be foolish, so instead I settled for 'normal', the worst word in the English Language, after 'nice'

"Really?" he asked, a tone of surprise in his voice, that is normally not present when people use that phrase.

"Why?" I asked him, "Has somebody said something to you?". This was another sure sign that I still loved him; I was allowed to list his faults, all the bad things he had done to me when we went out, but if anyone else started, God help them.

"No....I just feel fat" he said. This was indeed unusual for a boy to feel and, had I not been required to dash off to Sociology, I would have talked for longer.

"I'm sorry, George, but I have to go. I'll talk to you later" I promised.

"OK, talk to you later....and thanks" he said, in the same melancholy tone he always used when I told him I had to hang up.

"You're welcome. I love you" I said, but the phone had already cut off. Had he heard my last utterance that day, things might not have happened how they did, but then again, who knows?. I couldn't stop thinking about our phonecall all day. I remembered how sad he had sounded, how stupid I was for using a meaningless adjective like 'normal' when my heart was filled with compliments, just dying to run out.

"Maybe college has made him more insecure" suggested my friend Amber, when I told her of my concern that day.

"It seemed like more than that, and he said nobody had said anything to him" I replied.

"Well of course he wouldn't admit it, he's a guy. They don't like to dent their pride like that" she answered.

"George isn't like that, and besides he can tell me anything, he knows that" I said, sounding firmer than I meant to.

"Isn't it time you stopped thinking of the two of you as a couple? It's been seven months, Sarah" she said, a little harshly. Her words stung me; did she not think I knew how long it had been? Did she not think I had missed him every day for seven months? Did she not think I felt like crying every time someone talked about him? She had never had a boyfriend, she didn't understand.

"You don't understand, I loved him. I still do love him" I replied.

"I do understand, I was in love with Mr Allen for three years" she protested.

"Lusting over the Geography teacher is not the same as true love" I snapped.

"Maybe not, but you have to get over George. You don't want to be his security blanket forever" she said, and strode off to Biology.

"Yes I do" I whispered. Later that night, I called George as promised.

"Hello?" he answered in his usual polite manner.

"Hi, I'm sorry I couldn't talk earlier, I had to go to Sociology" I explained, hoping he wasn't angry with me.

"No, no it's fine. I understand. How are you?" he asked, his voice slightly more cheerful.

"Good thanks, are you OK?" I asked him.

"Yeah....well alright" he replied.

"When you called today, and you asked me that question, what made you ask it?" I asked, treading carefully.

"I just feel unhappy. All the boys at college are good looking and athletic and I'm.....not" he concluded, sadly.

"You are good looking, almost on par with Gerard Butler" I replied. He laughed.

"Well, thanks. You always cheer me up, Sarah" he said.

"It's my job" I replied, tears filling my eyes. I loved him so damn much.

"I'm not good looking, though. I need to do something" he said, causing me to sit up, alert.

"Like what?" I asked fearfully.

"I don't know. I'll figure something out" he replied, causing me to feel sick.

"OK" I said, unsure of how to respond to that.

"I have to go, Sarah. I have History homework to do" he said.

"OK, enjoy" I said, sarcastically.

"Will do! See you later" he said and hung up the phone. I sat on my bed, unsure of how to feel. When I logged onto Facebook later, I gasped in surprise as I realised George had deleted all of his photos. Every single one.

"Why?" I asked the little grey outline who had no features, who was not George. Something about what George had said on the phone told me that this little edit wasn't a coincidence.

Wow. I am sooo excited for the next chapter!!! Yay!!! It was really good. I'm so interested in the facebook thing and why all this happened. It's really awesome. One thing that bugs me is that you type okay like "OK" the proper way to write that is okay. But all together I liked it!!!

Hello cogito! I'm here to review your piece, obviously. ^^

:smt023 Nitpicks:

It was 11: 05 when he called me that day.

Great start here. The only thing I would say that needed changing would be "11:05" shouldn't have that space between the colon and the "0".

I don't remember this because I am a whizz at remembering things. I remember it because I had to dash off to next lesson

I was a little confused at first. Perhaps you could make them into the same sentence? Replacing the full-stop with a semi-colon would probably be better than switching with a comma.
“Wizz” should have one “z”.

I knew who it was before I answered-his name came up.

Perhaps "...answered as his name came up on my phone." ? It makes it clearer. O.o

...my heart still leapt like a budgie confined in a cage when I saw his name.

I just LOVE this. :smt003

"Hello?" I asked as gently as possible. He had called me several times recently; feeling insecure, uncertain, unloved and I had learnt to show him tenderness the way nobody else did.

"Sarah? Can I ask you something?" he said, cautiously.

Maybe it would sound better if you switched around "asked" and "said".

"No, of course not. You're not fat.....you're...normal" I said. I longed to say 'perfect', 'gorgeous' or even more recklessly, 'the love of my life', but that would be foolish, so instead I settled for 'normal', the worst word in the English Language, after 'nice'

I was just going to point this al out as another thing I loved but then realised you're missing the full-stop at the end. I still love it though! :smt001

a tone of surprise in his voice, that is normally not present when people use that phrase.

Scrap the comma.

"Why?" I asked him,

Replace the comma with a full-stop.

I'll talk to you later" I promised.

Okay, I've been noticing this a lot. You have to have punctuation there! This is a speech tag so it's not just any punctuation: use a comma!
: I'll talk to you later," I promised.

"OK, enjoy" I said, sarcastically.

Scrap the comma.
But you still need that other comma!
: "OK, enjoy," I said sarcastically.

When I logged onto Facebook later, I gasped in surprise as I realised George had deleted all of his photos. Every single one.

Oh, had he really done that? You said this was based on something that had happened.

:smt023 Concerns:
Description:
All you have described is the MC's thoughts and feelings, and also the dialogue. That's all good, but I have no idea what the setting is like. I assume it's a college? You could have described the conversation with Amber a little more. Like .. where were they; what Amber looked like; what time of day; what the surroundings were like (describe the hallway, if they were in one); how about describing the noise of the other students and if there were only a few walking past or a screaming torrent which swept along the hallway? If it was outside: what it cold, sunny, traffic noise, students playing Frisbee?
Speech tags:
I saw you missed out the commas on most of your speech tags. You've got the lower-case thing nailed, the commas are absent, that's all.
"Yeah....well alright" he replied.

has to have a comma!
"Yeah....well alright," he replied.
See?
Cut back!
I've noticed you've got a description of how they talked on every single bit of dialogue you've got here! You don't need that! It gets boring and repetative to the reader, and also subtracts from the drama of what the person's just said. Sure you need it from time to time, just not all the time, is what I'm saying... :smt001 scrap about ... most of them... O.o
"Well, thanks. You always cheer me up, Sarah" he said.

What I've underlined is what you don't need.
It's fine if it's just:
"Well, thanks. You always cheer me up, Sarah."

:smt023 Overall:
This is starting to get creepy. Like with the Facebook thing. O.o It's a good creepy, though. And I hope everything is okay now in real life. Please keep me informed of any new chapters you'll post. PM me or whatever. Just let me know! ^^ I have to read more. I enjoyed this so much. :smt003

Hey there! I'm OxfordandOnyx...

Just thought I would drop in a review! (:

First of all, I have a few nit-picks.

The first paragraph is off-putting for me. You have a good opening sentence but then the way you structure the rest of the sentence kind of throws the whole opening off balance. Try re-phrasing this.

"Really?" he asked, a tone of surprise in his voice, that is normally not present when people use that phrase.

Okay, I've heard a lot of people say "Really?" out of surprise, it isn't that uncommon, so you should cut it to

"Really?" he asked, a tone of surprise in his voice

It also rolls of the tongue a lot smoother than the previous sentence doesn't it?

You should add a little bit of setting description so we know where your MC is. It would definitely add more realism to the situation.
When your MC is talking to her friend Amber, I don't really feel a spark between the two. Maybe you could describe both of them and the relationship they have with each other.
Also, you give a lot away in the first chapter. I don't really think your MC has to directly tell us she is in love with this George because as the chapter progresses, we get a sense of that anyway.
However, I do idea of George's problem as the "Am I too fat?" thing it is highly publicised in the women's world but of course it is a problem for men too.

Overall, I really do like the Facebook thing you have added there, you've done a great job!
Please continue!

Thanks for all of the reviews!
I do lack in punctuation skills and I'm sorry about that
My story is based on a true story-our story
Maybe that's why I don't use very much description and sound too casual, because I'm just writing a sort-of stream of consciousness!
As for sounding creepy......I'm writing it the way it happened and yes, he did delete all of his Facebook pictures!
I will post more if you're interested

Half Of You To Hold-Chapter Two: Losing My Faith

Autumn was giving way to winter, but that was not the only reason I was feeling so cold. I had not heard from George for a week and this, in conjuction with the other factors, worried me. He had not logged into Facebook for days, and he was not taking any of my calls. Lit class was rowdier than usual, due to the fact that we were studying poems about sexual empowerment. The boys were being their usual immature selves and the girls were sitting bored at the other side of the classroom.

"Sarah, what does this poem tell us about the role of women in the 1700's?", asked Miss Vasey, my middle-aged yet glamorous Lit teacher.

"Erm....that they had no real role", I offered; in truth, I had not read the poem at all.

"What evidence is there within the poem to suggest this?", she asked me, expectantly.

"I don't know", I replied. I wanted to tell her I didn't care a damn about her stupid poems. I had lost the boy I loved twice and there was something wrong with him this time.

"Sarah, you're normally fantastic at poetry", commented Miss Vasey. I just bowed my head. Sitting on the steps of the English Block later, she found me.

"What's wrong with you? Is it something at home?", asked Miss Vasey.

"Yes.....no....sort of", I mumbled. One thing I loved about my Lit teacher was that she never judged or dismissed me, no matter how stupid I was being. Ten minutes later, we were sitting in her classroom, sipping Mint tea.

"It's about George", I began. I looked at the walls which were covered in posters advertisisng various plays. Just last year we had seen 'The Merchant Of Venice', which caused me to fall in love with the theatre.

"I see", commented my teacher, causing me to be raised from my stupor.

"He's acting....strange", I said, struggling to find an appropriate word. 'Strange' was just as much a meaningless word as 'normal' and I cursed myself for it.

"In what way?", asked Miss Vasey.

"He's being very self-conscious and insecure", I said. Yes that was it.

"Vanity gets to the best of us", she commented. I swear to God that woman is wiser than Dumbledore.

"It's not like superficiality. He doesn't like who he is", I said, still struggling to explain. Miss Vasey frowned.

"I'm sure he'll be okay in time", she said, smiling. How wrong she was about that. That afternoon, the phone rang. It was George.

"Where've you been?", I asked. I tried to sound casual, but desperation leaked into my voice.

"I've had things to do. I called to see if you fancy coming to the gym with me at seven", he said.

"Okay, yes. I'll meet you outside the gym", I said; I was still annoyed that he hadn't explained properly, but he was extending an olive branch.

"Great, see you then", he said, happily. At seven, I stood outside the gym, waiting for him. I was dressed in grey track pants and a white T Shirt. When he saw me, he smiled broadly.

"Ready?", he asked, grinning.

"Born ready", I replied. Everything between us was a competition, fitness was no exception. Two hours later, we were on neighbouring treadmills, when I saw him turn up the speed.

"I'd be careful; anything above level six is a killer, trust me", I breathed. Sweating profusely, he carried on running. I turned mine off, gasping for air; but he kept running, getting faster and faster until I was sure he'd pass out. I turned off his treadmill and faced him.

"What the hell? You could have killed yourself!", I shouted. Looking back, I think that was exactly what he was aiming for.

Hello! You've done a very good job so far.

Autumn was giving way to winter, but that was not the only reason I was feeling so cold.

I love love love love this sentence. It's a great way to start off the chapter.

I wanted to tell her I didn't care a damn about her stupid poems.

This would make a lot more sense if you said: I didn't give a damn -or- I didn't care.

I had lost the boy I loved twice and there was something wrong with him this time.

The second part of this sentence doesn't really go with the first part. I had trouble understanding it.

but he was extending an olive branch.

I should know what this means, but I have no idea! Ack! What does it mean?

Looking back, I think that was exactly what he was aiming for.

Cliff hangers; gotta love them. I really like how you ended the chapter with a bit of suspense, because now I seriously want to read more.

This is a very good story and I can't wait to see how it ends. I just think you need to describe the setting a bit more and maybe add in more descriptions of the main character so your readers can get a better idea of what she looks like.

Other than that, this is great and I'll definitely be reading more.

Oh, whoa. The end was ... creepy? I'm unsure how to describe my feeling of unease after that. O.o
Much better than the first. I loved your opening line, and the end line just keeps repeating itself in my mind. *shivers*
"I see", commented my teacher

Comma should be inside the speech marks, but Sasha has caught the other nit-picks. ^^
I still advise that you cut down on the speech tags. It detracts from the great dialogue you've got.
Please continue. ^^

Hi, I'm glad you posted the next chapter of your story up so fast- I really wanted to see what happened next. (:

Few nit-picks

"Sarah, you're normally fantastic at poetry", commented Miss Vasey. I just bowed my head. Sitting on the steps of the English Block later, she found me.

This part confused me a little bit, it's a very quick transition from one scene to another. So to make this a little clearer, maybe re-phrase the sentence or start a new paragraph.

"I'm sure he'll be okay in time", she said, smiling. How wrong she was about that. That afternoon, the phone rang. It was George.

Start a new paragraph, George ringing is a completely new situation.

I turned off his treadmill and faced him.

She has suddenly turned of his tread mill without warning him... Wouldn't this throw him off balance- even a little? You say he is going at a really fast pace, so would she really be stupid enough to suddenly turn it off whilst he is still running?

"What the hell? You could have killed yourself!", I shouted. Looking back, I think that was exactly what he was aiming for.

I don't like this as it is a little dramatic. He was only running on a tread mill... Maybe you could change this to "You could have hurt yourself"? Also,

Okay, about your characters. It would be great if you could add a little more description. What does Sarah look like? Has she got blond hair or brown? It will help the reader visualise the characters more. Or, alternatively, you could give little description of her and leave a little something for the imagination.

Also, I would add a bit more description, including setting and character (of course). You have a lot of dialogue in here which is great but to thicken out the story you could give us a little description of the characters surroundings. For example, when George rings, where is the MC? In her bedroom? Tell us! Also, when they are in the gym you could even describe the smell of sweat, the thin women and muscled men. (Was George paying particular attention to the abs on some of those guys?)- add a little extra detail.

I enjoyed this chapter and I really can't wait to see how it all turns out (:

Good Luck with this story and keep on writing!

I didn't get the chance to read your second chapter, but im sure its just as magical as the first.
Your dialogue is amazing. Everything the characters said sounded like things teenagers would say.
You didnt have much description, but i think that will come in time.
good job! i hope to read the second one later

Half Of You To Hold- CHapter 3:Love isn't like it is in Hollywood

It was almost Christmas the next time we saw each other. Revision for January exams had all but dominated our lives since September, but now it was time to have some fun.

"Wow, I forget how festive this place gets," commented George, looking up at the wreaths that hung from the high ceilings of the shopping centre.

"How much do you need to buy?," I asked him, reaching into my bag for my purse. George took a long list out from his coat pocket and showed me.

"Wow. Have your family multiplied since I last saw them?," I asked.

"Fortunately not, but I told my mum I'd get some gifts for her too," he explained.

"Well I'm thirsty, so let's get a coffee before we begin the thrilling task," I said sarcastically.

"I thought girls were supposed to like shopping," he asked, as we traipsed into the crowded Starbucks.

"We do, but not when it's for other people and there are like a million people in the shop with you," I said, sitting down at a table. I checked my reflection in the silver napkin dispenser; it was obvious that I had put on weight recently, my cheekbones were a little less defined. My pale face gave me a haunting look and could probably earn me a place among the Cullens, but I had always loved my eyes which fluctuated between green and brown.

"Are you being distracted by shiny objects again?," teased George, removing his coat and placing it on the back of his chair. My eyes travelled from the shiny dispenser to George in a split second and any colour that was remaining in my pallid face, left.

"What's wrong?," he asked me, his blue eyes meeting my green.

"Nothing...you just look....different," I managed. If 'different' meant skeletal, unhealthy and emaciated-looking, then I was being truthful.

"I'm glad you noticed, I lost a couple of stone," he said, grinning. I smiled weakly and removed my own coat, which revealed a very different story. I was not 'curvaceous', 'voluptuos' or 'bootylicious', I was fat.

"Caramel coffee frappucino?," asked George.

"Yes please," I managed. George went off to the counter and I sat, willing myself not to cry. He had 'done something' as he'd said he would. He had starved himself to the point of being skeletal, his shirt hanging off him. I tried to tell myself I was being unreasonable, lots of people dieted without starving and lost weight;but as George returned with my frappucino and just a water for himself, I went into panic mode again.

"I had a fun day," said George, panting with the effort of carrying so many bags around for hours. Being the gentleman he was, he had demanded to carry mine too, and despite my fear that his twig-like arms would snap from the effort, I hadn't the heart to say no.

"Me too, despite the hustling and bustling and the heat," I said, smiling at him.

"I've missed you Sarah," he said, placing the bags on the floor and a hand on my face.

"Me too, two months is a while," I replied, shaking slightly.

"I mean I've missed you so much. Missed us," he said, leaning closer to me.

"So have I....I've...," I tailed off, not knowing how to convey my feelings. George was so close now that I could feel his warm breath against my cold skin, I could smell the peppermint breath mints he popped like pills on his breath. As the familiar lips met mine,I forget everything for a moment; it did not matter that he was skeletal, or that I wasn't. It didn't matter that we had split up badly, It did not matter that everyone could see us at this moment. George was here and he was mine again and I loved him-I loved him so, so much. He was kissing me and I was kissing him and it felt wonderful. When we pulled away, he looked me in the eyes again.

"I promise it won't be like it was before. I'm a different person now," he said. His lips were moving but his eyes did the real talking, they assured me he loved me like he used to, that we could start again. I replied with the the only thing I knew to be true anymore.

"I love you".

"I love you too," he whispered into my ear and he held me tight. We were both going to learn that becoming 'different' wasn't always good.

"How much do you need to buy?," I asked him

Noo! remove the comma - you don't need it 'cause you're asking a question. Don't use the comma if you need to put in a question mark or an exclamation mark. :smt002

earn me a place among the Cullens,

There is no escape from Twilight. :(

"Are you being distracted by shiny objects again?,"

(My first nit-pick point also applies to this).

"Caramel coffee frappucino?," asked George.

Again, first nitpick.

and lost weight;but as George

Space between the semi-colon and the "but".

I could smell the peppermint breath mints he popped like pills on his breath.

Wonderful simile. This told me more about George's condition than how you just described him. I'm unsure why it affects me so, though... *muses* :smt003

As the familiar lips met mine,I forget everything

A space between the comma and I" needed. Also, you slipped into present tense with "forget". "Forgot", perhaps?

"I love you".

Full-stop should be inside the speech mark.

Congrats on not commenting on the way it was said!

I'm sorry, but this is the only line where you haven't tacked on "he said" or "I whispered". It's great to use those every once in a while, but they can get tiring.

Yep. Still feels creepy. Gawd, poor George. Poor you. What a frightening experience!

I hope you'll add more soon. PM me if you do.
