I feel as if I'm the only one who finds the labeling system to be deficient and just plain silly. Many people are falsley accused of being "emo" for listening to a certain band "prep" for wearing polo's "punk" for wearing a spiked bracelet and "nerd" for being smart.

I listen to a ton of metal, punk, alternative rock, electronic and modern classical. So does that make me "emo"? NO!

I wear (and like) preppy clothes. I also think that pink is the cutest color in the world. Does that make me prep? HELL NO!

I am obsessed with vampires. am i goth? Nope

I dyed my hair purple (well, it's back to natural blonde). does that make me punk? nope

I am happy and very hyper all the time does that make me scene? no

I am skinny...does that make me anorexic? NO (That one is driving me insane)

I know a ton of random weird facts and love anime/manga am i a nerd >_<

But even though most junior high students are under the impression that the most important thing in life is fitting in and being Queen Bee, once you get to college, nobody cares about what you were back then. Where has self respect gone? Guys, you need to focus on how YOU wanna be, how YOU feel about yourself, and what your true personality is. Be yourself. Not Ms. Popularitys drone (and Ms. Popularity needs to focus on herself NOT trying to change everybody to her liking) Everybody is special and unique in their own way. We all have flaws, but it's time to stop dwelling on the bad and the mainstream and pay attention to the good! We all have our own quirks. Find yours!

This seems to be something that would belong in a blog...it's not really an essay, so I don't want to critique it.You bring up some fair points, but I could easily say that because you listen to certain music, wear certain clothes, etc, makes you an emo, prep, etc. You have done nothing to prove this wrong, or convince me otherwise.

On the other hand I can appreciate your passion behind this. No one likes to be pigeon holed.

Anyway, keep in mind that this is not a blog, though we have those too! :) Check it out! But also post any other essays (or other work) that you can.

Hello.

I absolutly 1oo% agree. I get called loads of things and I am not. How can I make it clear it'sjust me. Then there are loads of people around me saying are you a jock or chav,I don't like them, I'm not your friend them

I feel like screaming in their ears I'm me. not an emo, chav, punk, goth, prep, jock, gangsta, or anything else. Just me and accept it.
