The candle illuminates the small world she put herself in. The night air is cool and crisp but doesn't enter in to her. The window she looks through is closed and locked tight. The old haggard woman sits with a hand-knit blanket covering herself while her tired, sad eyes stare through the glass. Her skin is wrinkled and turning white but no one can bother her now. For a long time ago, a time of which this old woman doesn't speak of, her love went away to war.

The war is something no one talks of anymore. Men came back home and greeted the women with smiles that were true. But one man did not come back home...and she still waits because those many years ago she didn't get to see his smile. And so she continues to wait in a home that doesn't exist for a man that died too long ago in a war that no one remembers.
