Austin leaned in close and whispered in her ear, "Look out for the reachers."
Alexi leaned back confused about her boyfriend's latest comment. 'Look out for the reachers'? What was that supposed to mean? She looked into his eyes and watched his eyes become very distant. They rolled back into his head as he slowly lost all life he had left in him.
"Austin?" Alexi whispered. "Austin?" She sat there in the booth staring at her now-dead boyfriend as tears welled up in her eyes and rolled down her pale cheeks. Sh leaned in and kissed his soft, pink lips and ran to the office where she threw herself in the soft, gray, rotating chair and wept.
"Alexi?" Kevin asked in a gentle tone. "Alexi, it'll be okay." He walked over and scooped her up in his arms and held her as she cried into his cardinal red polo. He sat down in his chair and sat her on his lap. Kevin stroked he dark hair as she slowly drifted off into murky unconsciousness.
Who stole my cookie? Did YOU steal my cookie?
Give me my cookie back!
Haha.... I tricked you! That kid over there has my cookie!
An hour after his escape from the clutches of zombie-death, Larry foun himself in the city centre, holding a brick and staring at his reflection in the front window of a twenty-four hour chemists.
Over-night he seemed to have aged indefinitely - was that a grey hair? - and yet there was also a steely determination in his eyes that had not been present before or during the previous, drunken evening.
Wasting no time, Larry took in a deep breath and hurled the brick through the window. Glass erupted towards him but Larry was only focused on finding something to deal with his shoulder. The bleeding had slowed, but he still needed something to plug up the wound and deal with any infection. Barely pausing to inspect the damage he had inflicted - to himself or the shop - or think in awe about how much he had remembered from those two months he'd dated a nurse Larry stepped into the unlit shop and was then forced to stop for a second as his eyes became accustomed to the gloom.
When his pupils had opened, Larry made his way deeper into the small shop. He grabbed a basket from by the door and went along ailes, dragging everything off the shelves that looked like it might help. Instincively Larry headed over to the counter with his "purchases" before pausing to remind himself of what had happened.
"You idiot," Larry breathed to himself, almost in relief, "Why would there be anyone here? They're...gone." He stopped himself saying Dead merely because saying it outloud would be too much like accepting his fate. There had to be someone else alive.
While he said this Larry was stood silently staring at the wall behind the counter. When he was done Larry realised that if he'd been bothering to listen he would have heard proof right there and then, in that shop, that everyone wasn't dead. He could hear some shallow breathing seeming to come from the floor behind the counter. Someone injured?, Larry thought, Or is it another one of....them?...Only one way to find out I suppose.
Taking great care not to lose his basket, Larry slowly leant over the counter to see what was down there. He edged slowly closer and closer, each millimeter making it even harder for Larry to continue. Pausing halfway across the counter to think whether he really wanted to see what was down there, Larry decided Yes and, with one deep breath, he thrust himself forward so he could see what was there.
It was a severed hand.
Strange... The door leading to the back room of the chemists chose this moment to burst open and through it fell the remains of a man - Larry guessed the owner of the hand. Stepping round the counter Larry went to inspect the tattered human remians. They still had both their hands. A groan caused larry to jerk his head up and look into the completely dark back room. Two yellowed eyes stared out at him and very soon later Larry saw the un-dead body they belonged to. Teeth bared the zombie took a step out into the mian shop, hands stretching out in an attempt to grab Larry's face.
With an oddly feminine squeal Larry turned tail and sprinted out of the chemists, basket held tightly to his chest.
Looking behind him as he stepped out into the grim daylight, Larry didn't see the man he bumped into properly. Just the shotgun clenched in his right hand.

I saw the yellowed eyes heading for the wounded man. I took quick aim and emptied a pair of shells into his lifeless face. "And who have we got here?" I asked looking at the wounded man.
I have looked into the eye of the storm and stared it down. I am an adrenaline junky and i know no fear.
