We had been laying on my bed in silence for 10 or 15 minutes. I could feel the mattress moving slightly with his breaths. I watched his chest rise and fall as he stared up at the ceiling. Thousands of butterflies rushed through me. There was no denying it; I was completely in love with my best friend Christopher, and I had been for a while. I often wondered if he felt the same way as me, if he laid in bed every night thinking about my smile the way I did for him.
I had so many reasons to love him. He knew everything about me, good and bad, but he never judged me. He actually understood. He was always there for me, always a shoulder to cry on. I felt safe and loved with him. He was so cute too, with his moppish blonde hair, blue eyes, warm smile, and a tall, muscular body.
I rolled onto my side to face him. He was so beautiful it made me want to cry. I took a deep breath. "Christopher?" He turned to face me.
"Yeah?"
"I've been wanting to tell you that I ..." It was harder than I thought it would be. I took one more deep breath. "I love you". I had done it. I felt so vulnerable, like all I could do was wait for his response that would either make or break me. An eternity passed.
"I love you too, Emmie" he said in his charismatic voice. A few seconds went by before he added on "and I mean that".
((This is something I would like to continue as a novel. ))
