Do you mean "breaks"? It would make more sense to me that way...

She didn’t look to happy to be working ten minutes passed her shift,

You're doing a great job! I already like Sam and her protective feelings toward the little Russian boy. I'd like very much to read more!

By the way, have you ever seen Pearl Harbor? Your descriptions remind me of a scene in that movie. I'm just curious.
