I pushed long dark hair out of my eyes, desperate to find my last class of the day, which was English. After school I was going to pick up a supposedly abandoned duffel bag, which was full of everything I would need for tomorrow. Did it matter I was stopping a thirty-seven man from becoming thirty-eight? No, not to me. To him, it mattered, of course. But right now all that mattered was that Mrs. Beale was going to be frustrated if I wasn’t in class, NOW.
I walked in, at least five minutes late. First thing I noticed was the overpowering aroma of hospitals and the elderly, which Mrs. Beale represented. She looked up from her desk, from behind pointed-amber glasses. Her eyes were glaring and amber in color. Her curly white hair was askew, as though she had just run a marathon.
“Ahh” She said croaked, revealing yellowed teeth and a stench of cigarettes. “You must be the new girl.” She sighed. “Sit. There.” She said, from behind those horrid, croaked, yellow teeth. They were making me shudder, as they were like little yellow candy corns gone bad. She raised an eyebrow from behind an array of wrinkles.
“There.” She repeated and pointed to an empty desk near the back of the classroom. A boy was on my left, and Holly, with her sparkly emerald eyes and fiery hair was on my right.
I walked, like a slug, to the back of the room.
“Holly.” I said, acknowledging her.
“Jane.” She replied, without as much as a glance at me.
“Who’s that?” I asked, glancing at the boy at my left. He had raven-colored hair, and was deeply tan. Across his cheeks and nose freckles. His eyes were somehow only black, as though the iris had been swallowed by the pupil. He had comically large feet, which protruded out from beneath his desk, threatening to trip me.
“Zac.” She answered, her voice hiding all emotion from me.
“Hi” he said, waving. I rolled my eyes at him and his ignorance, though he was cute.
“Maybe I should move.” He said, when I didn’t reply.
“Maybe you should.” Holly answered for me, while she scratched a heart into her desk.
“Zac?” a voice called from across the room. I immediately recognized it as Jenny’s, being a high pitched shriek, like a fire hydrant. “You can come sit with me, and leave those freaks alone before they hurt you.”
I looked down at myself. Sure, Jenny probably thought it was a disguise, but I had chosen it, down to the type of eyeliner.
“Shut up!” Holly yelled across the room, and then made a fist at Jenny.
“Holly, shut up. You’re no help.”
Holly raised her eyebrows at me.
“I was just guarding, you know. Play nice and I’ll tell you about your Zane.”
My heart began hammering against my ribs, like a bird trying to escape its cage.
“Tell.”
“He’s alive, but hardly. They beat him every day. He`ll die soon.” She broke off, coughed, and then re-started. “I’ll unlock his door at nine, and then unlock it again at eleven. You’d better be in and out before they catch you.
“Thanks.” I said, my eyes tearing up.
“Jane, if they catch you, I won’t be able to save your life. Again.
The bell rang moments later, but I was lost in a world with my Zane.

Original (Ver. 1)
"Holly, shut up….I can’t breathe!” I whispered to my best friend Holly, who had been telling me a hilarious story about her summer. I had been laughing so hard, I hadn’t noticed that he had walked in.
Zac. The name itself was perfection. He strode in, gave me a tiny wave, and slid into the seat to my right. I was currently having a staring contest with my desk, hoping I would be able to stop blushing long enough to look up. No luck. I turned my head an inch and looked at him. His natural Raven –colored hair was catching the light, making it gleam. Zac was still taller than me, with the biggest feet I’ve ever seen. He winked at me with his dark brown eyes, so -lovable.
In many ways Zac reminded me of my German-Shepard puppy. For one, he still hadn`t grown into his feet, and was prone to step on me. He was also loved to play football, basketball, or just run around.
“Zac, come over here, leave the weird goth girl alone, before she kills you.” Jenny ,his girlfriend, called out to him, her shrill voice louder than a fire alarm.
I looked down at myself, dyed hair and all. Black short sleeve hoodie with a skull, elbow-length fishnet gloves, black nails, dark-blue jeans, and Converse shoes. Yup, definitely a weird goth girl that would kill him.
Didn’t that stupid blonde know That Zac was my best friend in grade school? Didn’t she know we had been Romeo and Juliet in a previous life? Jenny was so stupid, with her blonde hair, blue eyes and over powering pink clothes.
I clenched my hand into a fist. Normally, I would get up and punch her right across her stupid little face. But Zac was there, and he was glancing over at me in an apologetic manner. For her actions. Yeah, like he could control what annoying little twit did! She just made me frustrated just by being there, her tan arms curled around him......
At least it was the last class, on a Friday. Fridays were the days Zac would walk home with me, alpogize for Jenny`s snickers, pranks and overall Dictator ship of my life. I consented myself with that thought, which (trust me) was the only thing stopping me from walking over there and breaking her petite little nose.
“Jane…you okay?” Holly asked, her flaming orange hair and emerald eyes looking at me, waiting for an answer.
“Holly…don’t worry about me. Worry about what’s going to happen to Jenny.”
“That’s what I was afraid of. Why does Jenny have to steal him from you? I mean-you two are-”
“ Holly, She may be my twin but I cannot stand her!”
“Someone needs anger management classes.” Holly said, her voice high-pitched in an imatation of Jenny`s.
I rolled my eyes.
"Shut up."
