Cast:

Haley-Prep, loves herself, and can’t leave home without her phone
Emily-Shy bookworm with a surprisingly loud scream
Shayne- Always happy, but very very sensitive girl
Ghost- uuhh.. an evil ghost?

Lights up on stage. We find HALEY off Left, texting, while EMILY sitting in corner with nose in a book.

HALEY: (to EMILY) I don’t see why your so obsessed with books.. I mean, why read when you can live life?
EMILY: (Talking through book) what life?

HALEY shakes her head, scoffing. We hear humming coming off right… SHAYNE comes skipping in, humming Yankee Doodle

SHAYNE: Hia everybody!!!
HALEY: (obsessing over texting) Mmmhmm..
EMILY: (reading) Yep
SHAYNE: Guess what I did?
EMILY: uuuhhhh

HALEY presses more buttons with her phone

SHAYNE: (starting to cry) but but…. This is the bestest news since forever!
EMILY: (looks up startled) wha- whats your news?
SHAYNE: (screaming) I got a new pretty pink binder!
HALEY: (looking up confused) Wow.. I’ve never heard you like that before. Strange…
SHAYNE: I felt like being quiet today.
EMILY: Oh..
HALEY: (reading phone) listen to this! Somebody sent me this text message!
EMILY: Don’t you get text messages all the time?
HALEY: Yeah, but this one is important.. Listen! (reading aloud) “There is a ghost in the old emberwood house. Watch out, and warn others!!! If you do not send this message in the next 5 minutes, the ghost will kill you all..”
SHAYNE: Oooohh creepy!!!
HALEY: Yeah, I’d better answer it right now... (Begins to text, but stops when doorbell rings) I’ll get it!!!!!

HALEY exits off Right, leaving phone on floor.

EMILY: (calling after her) Haley!!! You forgot to finish the messa- oh forget it.. Its some dumb old superstition anyways.. ( starts reading again)
SHAYNE: what if some old ghost gets us?

EMILY ignores her, still reading. Oblivious to the girls, there is an old sign above them, that says: EMBERWOOD

HALEY runs in on Right, running and screaming, then exits off Left

SHAYNE: (giggling) whats her problem?

GHOST comes floating in.

GHOST: Beware!! I will kill you all!!!

Emily screams so loud that even GHOST covers his/her ears, then faints.

SHAYNE: Hmmph.. whats her problem? (Looks up and sees GHOST) OMG!!!!!! Your Tom Cruse!
GHOST: uuhh….yeah…Hmmm..this is going to end badly..
SHAYNE: I love you Tom!!!!!!! (Starts to chase the ghost around room) I love you I love you I love you!!!! (chases him off of Left)

SHAYNE comes back into room

SHAYNE: oops I forgot… (drags EMILY off left)

Lights down
I came into this world wrinkled and ugly. And no matter how much I accumulate here, it's a short journey. I will go out of this world wrinkled and ugly. So I enjoy life.

Interesting short play, could be quite funny on stage. Seems like it could be in a set of shorts about silly little teenage things, such as not forwarding text messages like that etc. It reminds me of the Myspace movie on youtube! You should watch that

Just a few notes:

EMILY: (calling after her) Haley!!! You forgot to finish the messa- oh forget it.. Its some dumb old superstition anyways.. ( starts reading again)
SHAYNE: what if some old ghost gets us?

EMILY ignores her, still reading. Oblivious to the girls, there is an old sign above them, that says: EMBERWOOD

Just a small thing, but you repeated the word 'old' three times here, you should change at least one of them.

OMG!!!!!! Your Tom Cruse!

Should be 'you're'.

SHAYNE: I love you Tom!!!!!!! (Starts to chase the ghost around room) I love you I love you I love you!!!! (chases him off of Left)

That really reminds me of the guy in the bathrrom in Mean Girls 'Oh my God, Danny Devito I love your work!'

"In my contact with people I find that, as a rule, it is only the little, narrow people who live for themselves, who never read good books, who do not travel, who never open up their souls in a way to permit them to come into contact with other souls -- with the great outside world."
— Booker T. Washington, Up From Slavery
