I lay beside Aaron in the comfy sheets of our bed. I think Aaron’s asleep, but every now and then a faint ‘Hmm’ or sigh escape his lips. I turn on my side and take a good look a him. He makes me so happy. I always stated how I never wanted a boyfriend, but if Aaron was willing, I was accepting.
“May I ask what you’re staring at?” I heard Aaron ask, his eyes still closed. I giggled and leaned forward, kissing his cheek. Aaron’s eyes flew open and he turned to face me. “I didn’t think I was fully forgiven.” He smirked, caressing my face with his hand. A warm trail was left behind from every stroke of his finger. I closed my eyes to enjoy the moment.
“I never said you were.” I smiled, my eyes still closed. I heard shuffling and light breathing beside my ear.
“What do I have to do to make you fully forgive me?” He whispered. I opened my eyes, my deep breaths unsteady. I felt overwhelmed all of the sudden, my head felt heavy and I wanted to shiver away. I pushed out all worries and became my true, daring self. I placed a hand on the side of his face and whispered into his ear.
“Kiss me.” Aaron obeyed and kissed my cheek, then trailed down to the corner of my mouth, then his lips met mine. When Aaron kissed me, I felt like I was knocked out; unconscious. It was the most unbelievable feeling in the world. I was instantly under his every command, doing what ever I can to keep this feeling going.
When Aaron started to deepen the kiss, I thought of a song called Lips Like Morphine by Kill Hannah. “…I want a kiss that leaves me gasping, and I want to feel that lightening strike me and burn me down, knock me out. Because I’ve waited all my life to be here with you tonight. Just put me on my back and knock me out again.”
My pulse raced as Aaron started to kiss my neck. I couldn’t believe this was happening, just like earlier today when things got heavy on the floor. It’s like an addiction. Once you start your body refuses to stop, no matter how much your mind says otherwise.
I squinted my eyes, trying to get all the jitters and butterflies in my stomach out and just move along with what’s going on. Aaron moved his lips back over mine and I placed my hands on his face, mocking his lips with mine. He started to moan, but nothing over the edge. I raised my knee to lightly hit him. I heard him grunt and I laughed at the mistake of hitting him too hard.
“What was that for?” He whispered in my ear, kissing my lobe.
“Shh, Carly’s sleeping.” I whispered back. “Sorry!”
Aaron kissed my cheek and nodded, then we continued to kiss. A few minutes passed and our kissing got even more fierce. A few more minutes passed and the clothes were off, under the covers, fast movements, soft moans, and more kissing…
Fuzziness covered my eyes when I first opened them to the bright light. I got rubbed my eyes and looked around. I was in the hotel room. I thought back to last night and a smile spread across my face and turned to face Aaron. But, he wasn’t there. I looked down and saw I was in my lingerie. I smiled at the memory then quickly grabbed my clothes off the floor before anyone woke up. I looked over and saw Carly still asleep and Brad sleeping on the recliner. I frowned from that memory and made my way into the kitchen to look for Aaron.
Turns out, Aaron wasn’t even in the hotel room. I shrugged it off my shoulders and walked into the bathroom to take a shower.
Carly rose her head and looked around the room, eyes half closed. She stretched before flopping back down on the pillow. She rested her hands on her forehead and sighed. She thought about Brad and how he cheated. Should she confess to him how she wants to split and not even bother with an explanation? Or should she listen to the story and then continue to try making things work? Carly contemplated this for a few minutes before she heard a light snoring from across the room. She rose her head to see Brad curled up on the recliner. She jumped in surprise, then raced out of bed to get dressed.
Carly opened the closet by her bed and pulled out a tank top and sweats. It was a rainy, overcast day in Miami. Perfect for her high school lacrosse sweat pants. She went to use the bathroom but someone was already in there. Carly didn’t want to risk waiting and not being able to get changed and out in time before Brad woke up. She bit her lip and thought. Then, she turned and made her way into the kitchen. There, she got dressed and pushed her hair back. She used her makeup mirror to apply a little eyeliner and foundation, then she slid her feet into flip flops, grabbed a card-key and was out the door.
I walked out of the bathroom, changed into some knickers sweats and a tied back t-shirt. My hair was pulled into two little pig tails and my make up was bland. I saw Brad waking up and walked over to him. ‘Whack!’
“Ow! What the hell?” He yelled, rubbing his forearm.
“That’s for cheating on my best friend.” I snapped, then flicked his head, “And that’s for lying about it!”
“I’m sorry okay, it was Bella!” He stood up, covering his face with his arms.
“Bella? Like, ex-girlfriend Bella?” I backed down.
“Yeah- bitchy Bella!” Brad peered behind his arms.
“Like, she came onto you?” I asked.
“Exactly. Remember she moved? Well, you’ll never guess where too!” Brad sarcastically yelled.
“Okay, calm down.” I re-assured him.
“How can I calm down?! My girlfriend is about to dump me and won’t even hear me out!” Brad yelled, upset. “I can’t lose her, Evie.”
The one thing I hated about being best friends of a couple is that I always knew something the other didn’t. For instance, I knew that Brad didn’t intend to cheat on Carly and that Carly wants to break up with Brad if he did or didn’t anyway.
“Just… give her time, Brad. Give her time.” I said quietly. At that moment my phone rang and it was Aaron.
“Hey!” I said. “Where are you?”
“I’m at the buffet in the hotel, join me?” Aaron asked.
“Sure! I’ll be right down.” I smiled. I got off the phone and told Brad where I was going, then raced out.
“Hey!” I greeted when I reached the buffet. Aaron was sitting alone at a table by the windows. I sat down in front of him and placed my hands on the table.
“Hi.” He leaned over and kissed my cheek. “We need to talk about last night…” The smile on my face was gone and all that remained was a guilt feeling in my stomach. My eyes darted all over his face before responding.
“…Okay.”
“Well, see technically that was my first time.” Aaron looked embarrassed and I isntantly want to tell him it was okay, but he kept going. “I’m not sure if it was yours but-I feel really shitty about it. I felt I could have stopped but I didn’t. I just- just want to forget about the whole thing.” Aaron placed his hands overtop mine.
I didn’t see a reason too, nothing was wrong. I snapped my hands back and looked at him in disbelief. “Right through the heart, Aaron. You just shot me down right through the heart, again.” I emphasized the ‘again’ before getting up and storming out.
