Imperfect World
We all want to be special
/But we’re not.
We all want to succeed
But we won’t.
And we all want to feed our children,
And hire people to clean our homes and
Feed those children
So we don’t have to.
But what about
Those other children
The ones
Starving
To
Death
In India.
The ones
Murdered daily
In Sudan?
We all want to stand out
But we can’t because some of us
Are
Just ordinary.
We all want to save the world
But nobody does because
Dreaming is believing is NOT doing
And picking up
A stray wrapper counts,
Every penny counts
And we can’t give more
Than a penny
Because gas prices
Are
Going
Up
Up
Up.
But you picked up that wrapper,
You gave that penny,
So now you are the hero
Along with
All the other wrapper-picker-upers and penny-givers
So sure, fine, fabulous! We are all heroes.
Everybody’s a hero!! Woo hoo! Don’t you love
being a hero? Oh ya! Wait, you kill puppies?
Ya, well, then you’re not a hero, but that
guy over there picked up a can so he’s a hero!
So have fun being a hero
“Screw you guys, I’m going home.”
