Scammers!

Does anyone know of any scamming publishing things for us to be aware of? I have been sent these important looking letters, but when I googled them, I found out they were a scam.

For poetry there is americanpoets.com or something like that. The League of American Poets is a total scam, so don't believe them.

I have submitted my novel, The Gifted and the Cursed to a publsihing guy named Dorrance Publishing Co. and they are a scam to. If you know of any more, please post them here so that we writers may be weary of them!

Though, really, with anyone who is going to find you and tell you to publish your work or that you have won a contest that you never even entered, you should be careful. Google stuff first, ask around, use your logic and poke holes in it. I usually don't trust anything advertised...Unless it's reasonable advertisements, like in Writer's Digest or something, but even then you need to research before you submit.

Also watch out for faux agents. I heard of a web site that lists all legal agents in the states but I'm not even sure it does exist, and where to find it...


In the end, use your best judgment and do not agree to anything that seems slightly out of wack. You're better off finding something else than being scammed.
