(Warning: the semi-lucid ramblings of a poetically inept Atheist ahead.)
Slave
Our freedoms are there for God to see,
allowing us to decide, to choose, and ignore
the most basic instincts of our kind.
We are not slaves, not like the animals
that crawl, and cry, and eat, and mate;
nay, we are superior, created in God’s own divine image,
for we are human, above even nature.
Our actions are free
...............................from the taint of animalism;
Our actions are pure
...............................like the sheen of plastic;
Our actions are holy
...............................and free from the sin of nature.
See the poor, soulless beasts compelled,
unable to resist, forced to do the bidding
of their basal instincts. Humankind
has no such flaw: man is uninhibited
by primitive longings, for man is no mere animal,
for man is so much more.
But I hear some say:
“We too are beasts,
..............................we too are animals,
and it is to the rest of the Natural world
..........................................................that we are related.”
Rubbish, I say. You are - I’m afraid - wrong.
You see, I know the truth; we are not related
to all other living things (the very thought of it!),
nay, we are related to dirt.
And, for proof: as men do not throw their dung at men,
thus your false belief is wounded and hurt.
