Pedro Meets Romeo in a Dream

Romeo: Hello good sir, I am looking for my love, Juliet

Pedro: I don’t recollect if I have seen her because I was lost in my own world contemplating what my life is about.

Romeo: What was your life focused on? My life was about my family and friends until I fell in love with my fair wife, Juliet, at first sight.

Pedro: My life also has been very centered on my family, such as my supportive father, until now that I met my love, Tita. How did your love work out?

Romeo: Alas! A feud went on between my family, Montague, and her family, Capulet so we had to marry in secret.

Pedro: I never got to marry Tita, I had to marry her sister instead; she was not permitted to marry since her mother needed Tita to take care of her in her old age as is tradition in their family. I wanted to stay as near Tita
as possible and Tita’s sister was the closest I could get.

Romeo: You must not be truly in love like me. If thou were truly in love you would have killed yourself, like I did, at the prospect of being kept from your dearly beloved.

Pedro: Why would I choose an uncertain death over a certain life where I would be able to see Tita sometimes at least?

Romeo: True love involves risk and sacrifice. You sacrificed nothing but love, while I sacrificed everything for love; I sacrificed my family, my standing in society and my life. I married Juliet despite the risks. You should have run away with her or both sacrificed your lives.

Pedro: Love is not meant to be sacrifice! And besides I did make a sacrifice by letting her go.

Romeo: “My life is in my foe’s debt,” that is a sacrifice for love. Sacrificing love is not a sacrifice for love, but against it.

Pedro: I did not sacrifice my love for Tita, “my word is my pledge” and I swore to love her forever, I sacrificed my life with her for her to keep her family’s honor.

Romeo: How did your father feel about you marrying Tita’s sister?

Pedro: I was open and honest so he supported all my actions. How did your father feel about you marrying Juliet?

Romeo: My father, Lord Montague did not find out about my marriage until after I had killed myself, and then he reconciled the feud with the Capulet family. I am sure though that if he had learned about it before my death he would have most likely disowned me or would have deprived me of my inheritance.

Pedro: I am sure the direct approach would have worked.

Romeo: It did not work in thy case with Tita’s mother so why would it work in mine? Not all parents are as easily persuaded as thy father.

Pedro: Though we could argue about the What Ifs forever, I would rather spend my time with Tita.

Romeo: As I would rather spend mine with Juliet.

Pedro: Goodbye.

Romeo: Farewell, I cannot bear to waste another moment away from Juliet.

I did it for english class.

Considering I don't know Pedro or the story that he's from, I found it very easy to understand the two characters. You're shakespearean dialect is a little out in places but I'm sure that doesn't matter and it can be very difficult to get it exact.

I think that you display the characters' conflicting views on love quite well but some of it is a little repetetive .

Altogether though, I found this an interesting piece and I'd certainly like to know what story Pedro is from so I can read it.

I was actually rather bored. So they meet up, and then decide to spill their lives to each other randomly? "Hi stranger, let me tell you about how my parents won't let me marry my love so I plan to kill them and then you can tell me about your love woes." It's just so....unsubtle. I need a little bit more conversation before they start going into detail or something like it.

this was okay since it was for an english kind of thing but if it is for other purposes it would be consider rather boring in my terms that is.

I thought this was a solid script. Obviously you wrote it in a perhaps a bit of a rush, but I thought it flowed well. It's fun to take characters out of the context of their play. Good stuff.
