Posting to Your Blog
Under the Blogs tab, click "Write a new entry". If you're familiar with creating new Forum threads, you'll see that the blog creation tool is very similar! Use the "Subject" field to title the post, and the big gray box to type out the body of the post.
You can also choose to add a poll to your blog! Polls will appear at the top of your post.
An Overview of Blog Customization
Looking to personalize your Blog? Once you have at least one blog post published, click “Edit my blog settings” in the Blogs sidebar to get started.
Blog Settings
Under this tab, the main cool thing you can do is change the appearance of your blog! Try playing around with the different settings to see if you like any of the themes better than the default YWS theme. I’ve noticed that the poll element breaks under any theme that isn’t the default theme, so that’s something to keep in mind if you do plan on posting polls on your blog.
If you’re savvy with CSS, any of the themes marked with an asterisk can be customized in the “Blog CSS” section. To get you started, here’s a simple line of CSS that changes the color of the body text!
- Code: Select all
body {
color: #ff9254;!important
}
Blog Title and Description
Here you can fill in the title of your blog along with a short tagline that appears below it. While each blog post will have its own title, this is where you name your blog as a whole. It's something that will be displayed at the top of every blog post. Here’s what mine looks like!

Blog Permissions
This is basically the security/privacy section. It’s especially useful if you’d like to indicate whether or not non-registered users can find, read, and reply to your blogs.
There’s also this “friend” vs “foe” concept which we don’t really utilize on YWS anymore. You can still set your profile or blog to be private from certain people if you feel the need to, but you’d need to add these users in a different area:

Under the Settings Dashboard, select the “Profile” tab and then click "Edit Privacy.” Here, add the usernames you want under "Blocked Users for Status Updates" and "Blocked Users for Profile.” You can also ask people directly not to interact with you, and ask a moderator for help if you need further assistance.
A Note on Blog Safety
Although Blogs encourage personal anecdotes, remember to stay safe online by avoiding sharing private information like your full name, address, phone number, or other identifying details. See the official Internet Safety thread for more information.
That’s It!
If there's anything we didn’t cover in this post, feel free to post your questions and tips here in this thread. Happy blogging!
