Hello Hello, I did bring up the idea of the possibility of planning and sharing a murder mystery. The thing is I am very much a planser so I don't know where to start with planning everything out at the beginning. I am also quite fresh at writing murder mysteries.

So does anyone have any tips or tricks for planning them out? Perhaps just planning in general? Does anyone have some free software I can use for planning things out?

I am sorry if this is a very short intro if anyone needs I can give more context if anyone wants it.

Hello, I think mysteries typically demand thorough outlining in advance, necessitating a clear understanding of the solution and the strategic placement of clues throughout the narrative.
As far as setting up the murder, I suggest you come up with a cast of suspects and think of what special skills they may have and what methods they may use. An inventor or tycoon or soldier or sweet talker will all have different methods of murder and cover up, and that also allows you to start providing clues to point to each suspect.

In most stories, but especially murder mysteries, the characters should have relationships with each other. If your protagonist tries to take charge, who resists? Which cast members get along well and which don't get along at all? Does anybody have history? Who is hiding a secret from who? Your protagonist wants a perfect picture of the plot, and you want to throw as many obstacles as you can.

A murder mystery can very quickly become a dialogue-heavy info dump, so try to think what emotions the reader might be feeling at any given time. Do they feel satisfied as the protagonist makes a breakthrough, tense as they try to escape a difficult situation, unease as the protagonist is in potential danger?
