Eighth grade book report of Joy Luck Club

" The Joy Luck Club, " is arguemented as despressing and uplifting; which is it? Although both answers have a possible arguement, it seems the story is extremely uplifting, and many fail to see this.

Now, the stories in this novel don't always have a happily ever after, but there is almost always something inspiring that comes out of this shadowing text that was meant to hide Amy Tan's meaning. In one of the stories a mother dies of an aneurism. The daughter and family were left behind, but it did not end with that. The two girlsthat were left behind with only a small chance of surviving had survived, and somthing miraculous happend. The daughter was united with her two sisters in China she had never met; the two sisters her mother looked for, for years without end.

In the hidden ligns of this book are also life lessons which can only be taught with mistakes, and theses mistakes have been identified as nothing but depressing facts in someones depressing life, and not for what they realy are. There was another story about a young mother who becomes a man's fourth wife and third concubine. She was looked down upon by her family, and was shuned out of her old life. This may seem like they are depressing facts, but this mother continuously taught her dauther things in life that could not be taught in any other way. She taught her daughter that it is not ok to wallow in your own greif, not to have a low self esteem; she taught her very important lessens for life.

And thats not it, there was a story that gave direction, and may answer thosewith questions. Actually there was more than just one, but this is a favorite. This is about a young girl trying to learn to be "proper" in her Chinese culture. Her mother was always correcting her, not to speak what she wants impiticularily. This girl, Ying-Ying, looses her way and finds herself amongst a very renowned man, the moon lady. Listening to his words of veritable wisdom she finds her family again. Reunited and shown direction in though, she understands now.

This novel of, dreaded depression, isonly a heaver cover for the light within. The hidden lessons, the joy used to sweeten the sadness, and the answers and direction this book gives are all great things that give this book a magnificent reputation for being outstandingly uplifting and soothing for the mind.
