I've never done NaPo before, and I won't have time to write much in April, but my goal is to write 5 at least this year. I'm not really a poet but recently I've been inspired...so I suppose I'll go with it. I have a vague theme of freedom and nature with a dash of magic thrown in.

Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new fire in his veins, and he was borne up on Snowmane like a god of old, even as Oromë the Great in the battle of the Valar when the world was young. - The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

When nest is gone and brush is burned When trees have fallen down What does the crow, the dove, or the jay Say when they roost all alone?
When house is built and people come To live where the birds reside They bring their dogs and cats and rats To tear down new nests in the spring
What does the heron or lonely owl See at night when all are in bed? Lights and fuel and speeding cars Where the streams of frogs and fish used to be
Humans must live no matter the cost Despite the birds and the trees They take what they want and forget what was lost From sky, wind and sea
Long will crow and dove and jay Wait for their home to return When green will grow and smoke fade away Never more to be burned

My tail was always white as snow Like Shadowfax or Silver And it was always my human’s job To braid it nicely for shows
Even though she pulled my hair I didn’t really mind She’d always give me mints and treats To make it up to me
Even when we didn’t win Or score in any shows It never mattered because I got mints From my favorite human’s hand
But today they cut my tail Well, it wasn’t sad for me I get to see a whole new pasture That’s full of apple trees
And though my tail is cut and tangled I’m really not upset For all good horses go to heaven With half a tail left
The other horses had humans too So I’m sure they’ll understand Why half my tail is back at home In my favorite human’s hands
