a. the action or process of love

if the night is bad company
come find me waiting at your door

i have promised not to wander far away

when the dark finds you shivering
clutching onto ghosts tethered to photographs
scraping at your tongue for suggestions of a taste
come find me calling out your name

i have promised to stay

when you see i am not your demons in masquerade
come and find me searching for a break
in the clouds, some sunlight for your tortured face
all these promises we have made and yet

come and find me pacing

you will find me waiting

i have promised to never leave this place

b. to induldge in excess

language

i had not known you then
but i knew skin and want

i knew heat and lust and not much
of cold sheets or failing to get what was close enough to touch

i had not known your laugh
but i knew teeth and the way they'd gnash

i knew who bit and who did not and everything in between

i knew the breaking of difficult things

i knew precise instructions for mending seams

and the pulling apart of frayed strings

i knew blood and thrust but not the sun

and nothing at all of gentle warmth
until i crawled my way into you and wept

until you dragged me outside of my own breath
and brought to scalpel all the ugly parts me

i didn't know shit about how to be

until you set me free

People say I love you all the time - when they say, ‘take an umbrella, it’s raining,’ or ‘hurry back,’ or even ‘watch out, you’ll break your neck.’ There are hundreds of ways of wording it - you just have to listen for it, my dear.
