and finally, my post. Apologies for taking so much liberty with your characters. I have tried to keep things in what I think is character. I've also left things quite open-ended. It would be easy for anyone to continue this.

I don't think that would help -- it would demand even more character interaction. The issue here is not that nobody knows what to do, so much as nobody has the time or will to do it.
