Non-Writing Activities Which Help You Write?

Hi guys!

Writers are born creatives, and we often don't stick to one method of expressing our creativity!

Other than writing, I sketch with colour pencils, and take a weekend acting class. The acting helps me with my character development, as it literally requires me to step into a role and see the world through someone else's eyes.

I sketch when I am struggling to see my story elements in my mind's eye and need to put a visual representation of a character in front of me. I'm not brilliant at raw sketching, so I usually look online for an image similar to what I envision and sketch it freehand, perhaps add my own unique twist to it.

What do you do in your life which fulfils you creatively and perhaps inspires your writing? Maybe your suggestion can help someone else branch out creatively too!

Walking with music.

Hm, it differs. I usually sketch or draw, because that's the best way to get my creative skills going again.

I go to sleep. I have amazingly vivid dreams that range from living beneath the house of a murderer to leaf people in a super-sized forest. My best ideas come from sleeping xD

Listening to music sometimes helps me get the creative writing juices flowing and set the mood for what I'm trying to write. I also like to draw. Sometimes sketching characters or settings can help me feel inspired and give me new ideas.

Meditation.

And LSD.

Well... I can't think for myself right now, but music does the trick, and so does sketching ( it doesn't really, I just think it does ). I like to sew and do other crafty things with my hands... I find I get a lot of thinking done that way. Also, I've written letters from one character to another, and I find that pretty good as well.

@Holysocks I never thought of letters between characters! I have done scripts of interviews between me and the characters. But writing letters between them could help me find out if any of them are keeping secrets from the others...

Yeah, it's a lot of fun!

Reading! And drawing. A lot of my drawing actually goes into designing dresses for characters... But it helps me to visualise!

Reading and running.

Reading, and doing martial arts gets me pumped.

Reading, listening to music and going on walks around town.
