19. no sweeter sin

i was once a great beauty,
sparkling like (and as
ever-changing as) the sea
and every man who knew it
desired only me;

yet i was ruined
by the girl with the fairest skin
and the darkest hair, her lips
like the blood-red rose
beneath her window--

oh, how i dared
to make a stand, to demand
her life, her heart in my hands;
it was no sweeter sin,
such betrayal--

and yet, she ruined me still
a beauty so fair;
she who lured me softly
into a snare, like the fox
who whispered to the hare.

20. like hunger

these shadows, like hunger,
linger between tree, leaf, house
and hold, like sap, to those
who dwell within

like fire, they dance and roar,
like hunger, they sing, growl,
call for more
and still, this lingers

yet it devours; fire, shadows,
with heat, with dark emptiness,
a hollow beast without a heart,
stomach, soul

and it gorges, feasts
on the empty things
an endless, all-consuming hunger
that lingers like the shadows.

21. and like a mirror

despaired, she sits
beneath tree, star, sky
and like a mirror,
she sees naught
but her reflection; morbid, morose,
obscured beyond recognition
and still, she sees
not herself, but a beast
monstrous and immense, her fear
dark, intense, and beyond
to terrified and in awe,
yet still, she sits, awaits
an end most revered
to a life quietly endured.

Collaborative poeting. Mesh, Pengu, Audy and I. We're not crazy, I swear. >.> Probably going to be edited...

The Adventures of Irony

like despair, she sits
sprawled upon the window seat
watching the moon chase the sun
into shadow, behind clouds too dark to not be ominous
to sea, field, mountain
where her smile does wane
and again. This silence where she speaks
holds still, the sun and moon leaning inward to hear
a softness; a swift indrawn breath
her love plucked by the mountain's peak
and arching into those wayward arms.
She turned so slightly, and looked straight ahead, and softly said,
"come back for me, my love, and shatter this despair"
but dismayed she was when he tore out through the door
as the savage scoundrel he always had to be.
[because this is a romance novel. For ever and ever, until the world ends, AMEN]

22. shiny stars and hidden scars

streaking past, rays of brightness
in amongst the shiny stars,
the hidden ones; fallen and arisen
from ash, brook, tree,
past star, moon, sun
and faraway planet--or two or three--

hidden from sight, like those scars
upon wrist, elbow, knee
and all the places in between,
until the last defining moment
where all the sky is lit
with streaks of gold-on-red-on--

black and empty, like the desert
at midnight
or the forest without all the trees,
a river without all the fish
in that shining, never-ending
sapphire sea.

23. irony

irony is like
the witch beneath
the stairs,
or the wizard
in the attic;

neither of which
do exist,
for it’s all a fragment
of your imagination,
a delusion of--

irony is like
the finest of wines
with such exquisite taste;
red on red on--
a glass only half full.

24. covered by your grace

this hunger lingers here
and it’s covered by you grace;
it sings and it dances,
swaying to the beat of
a thousand hearts.

if by chance, you see this,
you could discover
this yearning that I hold,
a long,
drawn out craving--

and this desire, it lingers
here between your lungs;
where it hopes to touch, to feel
the way each breath fills
and consumes.

--and if by chance, you feel the same,
i hope to map out
this space
between your lungs
and carve my name into--

--your heart,
and if this starving beast
should devour you whole
at least let me know
one last thing;

did you ever love me?

25. step into the fantasy

the shadows
have been withdrawn and the lights
turned on to reveal skin,
legs, lips, eyes; a feast of
man, woman, colour, sound--

step into the fantasy,
I’ll make sure you’ll never,
ever want to leave;
trust me, it’s guaranteed.

the darkness
is gone, replaced by light, sound--
a whirl of colours and song,
and dance numbers;
trust me, we aim to please.

so, step into the fantasy,
we’ll make sure you’ll never leave;
listen to our song, feel the the music’s pulse,
this isn't just a dream--

our eyes, our smiles
light up the room and keep those
shadows away, our skin makes
any man drool; trust me,
we catch the eye because it’s all on display.

why don’t you step into the fantasy,
trust us; you won’t want to leave,
so stay a little longer, see a little sin,
because, honey, it’s all for sale.

And that’s a guarantee.

this is just what.

26. a fleeting dart

a shadow, a fleeting dart
of wings, beak, claws, feathers;
an eagle, an owl?
That’s uncertain, for
was it night or day?
Either way, it was
a beautiful sight, a glimpse
of brown-on-white-on-black.

27. delight

day fades into night,
a rustle of leaves, feathers;
a cry of delight.

28. an eternal soul

a breathe, a gasp,
a fleeting glimpse of
something that was never
meant to last; a wish, a kiss
and a thousand scattered flowers.

this beauty lays below here,
smothered and decayed;
she sang such songs of desire
once, and it cost her
an eternal soul.

29. the dark spaces

she drifts, high above the sea
and the clouds, higher than ever
she could have imagine,
up amongst the stars
and beyond the moon;

to the dark spaces in between
Mars and Jupiter,
to the rings of Saturn and
beyond, to Uranus, Neptune
and the billions of stars--

but, eventually, she would
fall back down, float past
planets, moons, stars
and to earth, down through
clouds and rain, lightning, too;

and she would come to a stop
on the shores of the ocean, where
the waves ebb and flow, a thundering
of water and soft sea foam
and then below.

And the last one. Would have done it yesterday, but I crashed and burned. x.x Headaches, be gone! Anyhow. This was put together from bits and pieces of the other 29 poems, and then fiddled with, so some of the lines might not be very obvious in regards to their origin. XD Enjoy!

30. love is a dangerous thing

love is a dangerous thing,
the heat of summer melting tar
on a windless day in
mid-december; the stormy clouds
waiting on the horizon and
the bricks growing hotter
underfoot and then cold again,

a shadow against the floor;
rust and rose of the darkest design
splattered through this space
between the lungs or
the thunder before the storm,
sound on the wind by the old stairs;

glinting in a stray band of sun
and in a thousand stars and
all their demons,
those dark and quiet rooms
and sky beyond the moon; an elegant charm
of something long forgotten--

it lingers here like autumn leaves
on a summer breeze, between tree,
leaf, house, star and sky,
and seeks to grow old, to lean and bow--
to catch the eye because it’s all on display,
a glimpse of brown-on-white-on-black.

but it’s all a fast-fading memory;
like the fox who whispered to the hare,
black and empty, like the desert at midnight,
or the forest without all the trees, or perhaps,
a cry of delight, a breathe, a gasp, a fleeting glimpse
of the ocean; red on red on, a glass only half full.
