Pretending in words was too tentative, too vulnerable, too embarrassing to let anyone know.

1. lullabies lost on the highway

Of whispers in the night's drunken wake
In the hallowed moonlight you stand
Like a scarecrow in a crop circle -
Behind you, you cannot see
The shadows of my soul in a quest
For shattered crystals from the sky.

It's calculated
Methodical like solving a determinant -
Determined
the quivering thoughts yield
As the tip hovering over her veins
Slices into seemingly silent;
Silence --

pausing the whispers of life
