Okay, so I'm taking a Creative Writing course this semester and we're in the middle of a workshop for our fiction stories. I was really excited because I was looking forward to getting feedback on the short story I wrote.
So today we work-shopped my story, like 30 minutes ago to be exact, and I was very disappointed. I didn't receive much criticism except for what my classmates thought would have made a better story plot wise. They didn't do anything but praise my main character and discuss the story line.
I was pretty disappointed that I didn't get any great feedback I could use. And even reading through the "edits" that each of my classmates made on my story, I was disappointed. I went all out and edited through everyone else's stories, pointing out every little detail, because that's what I expected to get back. But, no such luck. My pages barely had any ink on them!
I'm wondering if any of you out there have participated in a workshop, either in high school or college, and what the outcome was. Am I expecting too much out of this workshop? Are my classmates just not used to editing correctly? This was my first workshop so, like I said, I wasn't sure exactly what was going to go on.
