In this browsing section, are articles that contain strong language marked so that I can tell before I open them to read? I thought it was required to rate works for appropriateness, I just wanted to know how to tell. Thanks!

Yes, it normally it is required to rate works appropriately, with the only mandatory requirement being 18+ if the work calls for it.

However, the system for actually rating works has been down for quite awhile. It is coming back, but we aren't sure when. If you find a work that should be 18+ (guidelines here), PM somebody in green and we'll send a message off to the poster about it. :)

It is only a novel... or, in short, only some work in which the greatest powers of the mind are displayed, in which the most thorough knowledge of human nature, the happiest delineation of its varieties, the liveliest effusions of wit and humour, are conveyed to the world in the best-chosen language
— Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey
