Anzu

I raised an eyebrow at Drake's typically eccentric behaviour, then ran a hand over my face wearily. "Look, it's the middle of the night and I'm pretty sure we could all do with some more sleep before doing anything else. We should meet up tomorrow and think things over then."

I glanced at Balthier again, a concerned look flashing over my face. "I have a spare room in my house, if you want to stay there for the night. Or..." -I waved a hand around vaguely- "there are plenty of places you can stay for now." He nodded with a thoughtful expression, looking no less distressed than before.

Most of the others nodded in agreement at my suggestion, noises of acquiescence coming in various degrees of coherency. Only Chase looked displeased at my suggestion, frowning deeply into space. He sighed to himself, then lifted his head slightly as if coming to some conclusion.

"No." He said firmly, with a slight shake of his head. "We shouldn't go back."

I don't listen to Balthier and Drake go at it. It's normal for Drake and, if they each want to make enemies or rivals with each other, who are we to stop them. Then Anzu speaks up and, though he annoys me and we're constantly competing for everything it seems, I decide to tune in.

"Look, it's the middle of the night and I'm pretty sure we could all do with some more sleep before doing anything else. We should meet up tomorrow and think things over then," he tells everyone.

Something seems to stand out to me a while away, a low humming almost serenading me to follow it.

"I have a spare room in my house, if you want to stay there for the night. Or..." -Anzu suggests, gesturing to all the others- "there are plenty of places you can stay for now."

Everyone else nods, leaving me to my thoughts. A deep frown etches in my face as I come to a decision, sighing and lifting my head a little.

"No," I say, shaking my head slightly, "We shouldn't go back."

A few questioning glances are sent my way and Mikayla looks like she's either ready to kill me or yawn herself. I don't answer to anyone, heading towards the humming. Part of me thinks this is crazy, while the other knows it's the only direction left for us to go. Previous doubts about how Balthier came to be here flood my mind and leave me to quicken my step and hope they're following.

Then I stop, inches away from one of the rock faces on the mountain. My eyes slowly adjust to the newfound darkness and I step back at what I see.

Yeah...that's not supposed be there.

"You might wanna check this out, guys," I call to the others, setting my hand on the stone, "What kind of mountains have doors in them?"

I quickly lost interest in Drake and Balthier's bantering, and instead turned my attention to an interesting little rock I'd found. It was metallic, almost shiny, and it was quite heavy for something so small. I picked it up, tossed it into the air, and then threw up a small magnetic field. When the rock came down, it stopped just above my palm, suspended in midair. Huh...that was interesting. A magnetic rock. Some sort of meteor, perhaps, or--

"You might want to check this out, guys," Chase called. Distracted, I dropped the little rock.

Chase, standing by the edge of the mountain, touched the rock face lightly. "What kind of mountains have doors in them?"

"Doors?" I repeated. I walked over and took a look at the rock face. "Where's the door?"

"Right here," Chase replied, pointing to the rock face. "You can't see it that well, but you can sort of feel the edges." I reached out and touched the spot he had pointed to. Sure enough, there was a little bump--the edge of some sort of door.

"That is so strange," I muttered. I tapped the middle of the door lightly, then a little harder. I frowned, and then gave it a good slap. When nothing happened, I stepped back, got a running start, and kicked it. The door didn't budge, but there was a muted crashing sound, followed by several small thumps.

"Oops," I muttered, stepping away carefully. "Hope that wasn't anything important..."

Balthier

"Here let me take a crack at it." I said.

I pulled off my shot gun from my back and placed the barrel end of it to the door, I pulled the trigger and a muffled but powerful blast broke the first hinge. I repeated the same with the lower second one, and soon the door came down without a problem. Which was good, but on the inside were several stone slabs that had fallen. Probably from Kami's kick, I looked to the others and they seemed mistfied at what they saw.
