We were mere feet from the exit when the roof began to collapse. Harvey took a solid hit from a fist sized boulder, right to the skull. He staggered out of sight through the exit. Unfortunately for me, the way out had been partially blocked. I turned as Shlesh re-appeared next to me from a burrow. I pulled out Derek's Pokeball as I observed the situation.
Photo was hammering anything on the ground with Razor-Leaf, but he couldn't do much against the numerous Golbat and Zubat that were swarming him.
"Derek, take out those Zubat with Ice-Beam! Shlesh, get to work clearing this debris."
I continued giving instruction where necessary, pointing out high-priority targets. However, there were simply too many Pokemon to be able to defeat them all. I was just creating time to enact a tactical withdrawal.
Shlesh had just cleared the exit at the same time I re-called Derek. I shouted up at Photo, "C'mon, lets get out of here!"
Shlesh dived into the ground, digging his way out. I turned for the exit, Derek swooping above me to Body-Slam a Sandshrew. I winced. Glad Shlesh didn't see that.
Just as I was about to reach the end of the cave, a tall guy rode in on a Typhlosion. He shouted, " "Look out guys, I'm here to help. Run to the cave exit. Flames, run to the ceiling of the cave and use Rock Slide then we're out of here."
I finally emerged into sunlight not believing what I had just witnessed. Help? I had the situation under control, never mind being about a foot from the exit. How's his Typhlosion going to get to the ceiling?
A jolt ran through me at the same time as a deep rumble from inside, but as I turned to re-enter Long Caverns the guy re-appeared, laughing.
"Well Flames, we are going to get in so much trouble for that!"
I stormed up to him, jabbing a finger in his face. "Yeah, you will. Do you have any idea how stupid that was? Not only have you now blocked the only way from Pollenville to Biotine City, but you could have killed or at least severely wounded a whole lot of Pokemon! Did you even think before charging in like that? Did it even occur to you to check what was happening, let alone take stock of the severity of the situation, before venting your gung-ho attitude?"
Rant over, I glared at the kid, Harvey just beginning to stir behind me.
