  • Can alliyah write 22 poems in 5 days to finish NaPo? @_@ stay tuned to find out! #NaPoGoals

I actually kind of still believe in myself? Just wrote four poems this morning... So I'm going to go for it, might end up ~formatting~ things in May, but I think I can do it. If you're still a little far from your goals, I believe in you too! Good luck! :] I am proud that I've written around 50 poetry comments so far this month though and am sure I can get 60 by the end of the month, so even if I don't get my poetry goal, I am very happy about that.

    Quillfeather Oooh you got this!
This will be so epic to watch~
*Waiting for some amazing alliyah poetry*

1 JAM JAR LEFT: Let's grow some poetry!

Jam jars are getting to be in dangerously low supply here! You know what that means? National Poetry Writing Month is right around the corner. If you haven't posted your thread yet, it's not too late - you still have plenty of time to set some #NaPoGoals and post your thread! (in fact you can join in anytime during April!) Going to share my #WhyNaPo answer from last year as it still applies for why I personally love NaPo:

I think two of the most fabulous things of NaPo are 1) it will absolutely improve your poetry and hone your poetic voice if you write 30 poems in 30 days and 2) if you don't have time to write 30 poems during the month did you know you can still participate at a more chill level? Many people set a goal for 5-15 poems to work with their other life commitments. We even have a badge for writing 5 poems in the month.

Also if you're a bit nervous about sharing your writing with other poets & YWSers, I'd love to encourage you to still give it a try! I really think NaPo brings out some of the most positive poetry vibes of the year, and people are usually really encouraging during the month towards other poetry, so you have nothing to fear! NaPo isn't a competition but a mutual goal to celebrate and write poetry.

To participate in National Poetry Month:
    1) Skim through the Information Station for all your poetry gardening supplies and news
    2) Make a Poetry Thread for collecting your poetry during the month of April in the NaPo Forum
    3) Ask any Poetry Crew Member if you have any questions / concerns.
    4) Write Poetry & leave supportive Poetry Comments in NaPo threads during the month of April.
    5. Have fun!

  • Last year all I managed to do was create a thread and write one poem... This year, I have some ambitious goals and hopefully I will be able to achieve them.

    1. Write 23 poems(because it's 23 ;))
    2. Comment on at least 15 people's threads.
    3. Learn a few poetic devices and use them. Also experiment on some different forms of poetry.

By the way! As you're making your threads it's not too late to join in on the #WhyNaPo or #NaPoGoals or other napo Hashtags ~ and if you're still not too sure what NaPo is, but have been way too intimidated by the cat-gifs to ask, be sure to check out the NaPo FAQ put together by @Quillfeather and myself with all your NaPo questions!

Last but not least, if you need an extremely low-pressure poetry stretch before April appears -> consider participating in the Worst Poem Thread or jumping on to our Haiku Train. Whether you're going for 5 poems or 50 poems, whether you've changed your thread 3 times already or like me you haven't even posted it, I believe in you. You are a poet after all. Let's get excited for a wonderful month of poetry together! I kind of have a feeling this might be the best YWS NaPo yet! :)

  • Meant to hop on the NaPo jam this weekend but then I kind of forgot whoops. Anyway, declaring my #NaPoGoals

-30 poems, ideally one every day.
-would like to do at least one structured poem
-would also like to revisit submitting some of my older pieces to journals (did a batch, got rejected, willing to try again but I think the pieces themselves need more work than I realized).

Also posted one of my old-people-angst poems to the publishing center because why not. in the mirror i saw my life’s erosion

  • alliyah I am so looking forward to your thread! <3

  • Ah!! NaPo is getting closer and closer! Look at all those Jam Jars disappearing. Time for some #NaPoGoals

This year is going to be probably my busiest April yet; I have Holy Week April 6/7/9 so will be very busy that week and probably not online much, and then my dad is actually visiting me the 9th through the 16th - this is quite a big deal to me since usually I visit him and only get to see him a week or two a year if at all. He's actually only visited me where I live once back when I was in school, so I'm very excited, but also want to do a good job hosting him since we don't get to spend much time together. Then the 3rd-ish week of April I'm going "back home" to go to a close-friend's wedding and will be traveling around and flying for several days. So, I think there's at least a few days in there that it will be absolutely impossible for me to write and keep up with life responsibilities, so am not going for the "Poem a Day" even though I wish I could, may just have to settle with 15 poems if things get too unmanageable; but I'm really hoping that I can do 30 poems since this would be my 7th year completing it. :]

    My Goals
    > Post 30 Poems.
    > Post 1 Song.
    > Write at least one structured Poem.
    > Read most if not all of the site NaPo threads.
    > Make 75 Poetry Comments. (last year I did 66 so it'd definitely be a stretch, but I think it could be possible to do 75.) I'd be very happy with hitting 30 though too!
    > Good support of PCrew NaPo events / activities.

alliyah If u count the haiku as structured poetry I think u actually did it! <3

  • I don't poetry, so my #NaPoGoals are to read all your wonderful poems and to interact with the different threads as much as possible! I can't wait to read all the pretty words <3

  • #NaPoGoals

    - Poem a day
    - Going to try writing mostly sonnets this time round
    - At some point, use slant rhyme
    - Keep an eye on the Lit Center and keep review counts sensibly high there
    - Smile and wave

  • #NaPoGoals

My schools starts in April and there is Ramadan as well, so it's going to be busy for me but still I will try my best for NaPo because I AM EXCITED!!!

    - obviously try writing atleast one poem a day, this is only my second NaPo so I am gonna take it easy but I am still gonna try nevertheless.
    - encourage other members during NaPo
    - Participate in the jams I hope so
    - I have always written narrative or free verse. I would want to try and discover a different style of poetry!

    alliyah Good luck Alice!

  • #NaPoGoals So, I do want to do NaPo this year, but it feels odd because I've done it in 2018, 2020, and 2022, which means this year would be my off year. I usually freewrite based around a loose theme, but this year, I'm highly considering doing a project that will help me with one of my WIPs. I keep going to back to "Cole's song ideas" or "Cole's notebook" or whatever Cole from All Our Yesterdays would call the notebook where he scribbles down song ideas. In current drafts of the novella, I write around the music that propelled him into super stardom since I am not a musician.

I'll have to take a few leaps to write from the perspective of a guy writing about a girl, but these characters all come from me anyway. ;) Even if it doesn't change anything in the story right now, it will help me develop his character too, and if/when this would ever become a film, it might help whatever musician I'd work with to have some sort of basis for what I have in mind. The reoccurring note I keep getting from beta readers is to define the type of musician that Cole is; I see him as Joe Jonas if he'd been a solo artist. We'll see how this goes!

  • Here we go! #NaPoGoals

    - Finish. I've never done it and this year I'm going to do it
    - Keep up with only original writing. I used NaPo 2016-2021 to workshop and I'm really enjoying the fresh imagery and metaphors I have as a 25 year old person vs. a 19 or 16 or 15 year old person.
    - Engage in the forums with other poets! Usually I follow 1 or 2, this year I want to follow many!
    - Publish a few of these works in the publishing center and also review other people's poetry
    - April Madness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    alliyah You've got this!

  • Excited to share my #NaPoGoals this April! They are pretty basic, but I'm new to the whole NaPo thing so I figured I would start simple and go from there~

    - I want to write at least 10 poems! This isn't the traditional 30, but I'm expecting April to be slightly busy for me so I want to be realistic :')
    - Read other members' poems! I'm so excited to see so many people in this together, and I think it will help me stay motivated and also just be fun to read more poetry.
    - Along with this, leave comments regularly on people's NaPo! I'd love to get more involved in this community :]
    - Try out a new poetry form. I tend to get comfortable in writing free verse, and while I won't force myself to write strictly in formatted poetry, I want to go out of my comfort zone at least once.

Liminality Those sound like some good specific goals - best of luck!

    - Actually participate in NaPo. I know, but I have never actually made my own NaPo thread. This is insanity. But ever since @lliyah's thread YWS statuses that could work as a NaPo thread title I just had to, I am so inspired

    - And I don't just want to participate, I want to write as many poems as I can and feasibly for me, that will be about 5-10. But it is poetry nonetheless!

-Comment on other's threads and actually read the poems. My brain has been so fogged recently, but maybe a poem a day from different users will be something to help clear it up. (Also totally shameless plug for others to participate in NaPo)

-Use up some of the miscellaneous lines I have in my brain for some poems. I got a lot that I need to use that are too good to let keep floating around in my brain

alliyah <3 <3 <3 (There is SO much inspo in that thread, and many of them are your statuses too; so I'm glad you are feeling inspired!) Good luck on your goals - 5 poems can still get you a badge, so I wish you the best of luck! :)

  • #NapoGoals
April actually is a very busy month for me but despite that I still have some goals
-1. Poem a day - I really want to commit doing one every day, although I don't believe I have actually succeeded in that before (with good reasons but still...)
    2. Try out a theme - I have never actually tried having a theme before so I am interested to try this out.
    3. Try out different styles - I generally fall into sticking with something more free verse or something when I am writing, but I want to explore more styles
    4. Read through and make comments on more threads -
I often get busy and realize I ran out of time and can't get to reading all your wonderful poetry. But I want to make it a priority this year!
    So excited for NaPo!

  • 17 jam jars left!

Since April is fast approaching, it's time for some... #NaPoGoals !

I've thought of three for this April:
    - Use rhyme in all my poems! My past two NaPos have been mostly free verse, and I'd love to do some rhyme in this new month.
    - Write at least 20 poems. Ideally 30, but I'm not sure how feasible that is for me this year. So I'm aiming for 20!
    - Read. More. Poetry. That was one of my goals last year, and I didn't do it as much as I would have liked. So I'm setting it again and making up my mind to work towards it and read as many threads as I can!

    Tagging some other poeting folks to share their goals: @lliyah @rida @Euphory @Liminality @LadyBug @Seirre @figmoon @spatula @tatteredbones @Quillfeather @LadySpark @FireEyes @Lucrezia @Thediffident @4revgreen @Que and anyone who sees this!

Liminality Ooh I love that rhyme goal! Best of luck!

alliyah Thank you for the tag! And those are some great goals! :)

one week of jam jars remaining!

We are officially one week from NaPo! How are you feeling? Is your thread ready?

Sometimes in the week or so before NaPo I try to collect prompts that I can use during the month - this ends up making the month slightly less intimidating even if I don't use all the prompts I've collected. In fact here are 30 prompts you can use if you get stuck that can be kind of fun to write from too! You can feel free to share your own poetry prompts in that thread as well if you come up with something great.

    Still plenty of time to participate in our pre-napo hashtags too (#jammified, #NaPoThemes , #NaPoGoals , #WhyNaPo , #PoetryShoutout , #AlphabetAnswers )!

The NaPo Information Station has a beautiful collage of all the jam jar avvies so far, that you should definitely check out & if you've been searching the internet for just the right jam jar, look no further - I have the perfect option for you... yep! A pristine jar of green olives!
