Ian McKellen is a champion of equal recognition and rights to LGBT people, particularly in London when there was a time when homosexual men warranted prison time. But, unfortunately there was a point when in the 1720’s, if a gay man was caught his punishment was execution. Interestingly, Puritans turned mostly a blind eye to lesbians. In Ian’s generation, he had to hide his homosexuality for fear of prison time. Now, the man is out and proud.
I suppose that is what prompted this little exercise. He will be 84 in May, and I, I am very familiar with the gay activity in London so there is some commonality to a certain degree.
If two two men held hands or kissed in public it seems to be an automatic judgment the pair are gay, which is a gross assessment. Two straight men or one straight and one is gay can and should show affection for one another. As I said, platonic love is rarely talked about and in some regards is stronger.
I watched a segment when Sir Ian kissed a man. The other is a cis straight fellow and married to a woman. I grew tired of the sheer ignorance of it all.
The blurb about my announcing my orientation, well, while I don’t stand on the rooftop shouting it, lol, I am not afraid nor have I ever been revealing who I am publicly.
