DOL (Daily Oral Language)

16 posts in this topic.

  1. This is where either I or Poemperson will post our DOL's... daily oral language. They are basically sentences that are grammatically incorrect, and your job is to find everything that is wrong with them and correct them. Normally, we get two everyday, so you can take a crack at either of them. If no one gets a specific thing wrong, or if no one guesses, then we will post the answers if requested.

    Edit; rate how hard the DOL was on a scale of 1-10... ten being really, really hard, and one being extremely easy. :) Also, if you have any DOL's that you have made up, then PM me or Poem with them, and we will be happy to post them!
  2. Here are the first ones! :D

    1. anna elana and susan havent no reason to set and despair about the closing of lillys restaurant itll open again next month

    2.juan has wore his red white and blue suit every fourth of july for six years but now he has outgrew it

    Those are really, really messed up! Good luck ;)
  3. 1. Anna, Elana and Susan have no reason to despair over the closing of Lily's restaurant/"Lily's Restaurant" as it will reopen next month.

    2. Juan has worn his red, white and blue suit every fourth of July for the past six years(,) but now he has outgrown it.

    [There are a few other possible answers, depending on the context, the tone and how succinct you want the sentence to be.]
    ~P.S: Perhaps you should have a system rating the difficulty or something, because YWS-ers tend to be be strong in english so we can do harder ones ;)
  4. OK, here is today's DOL! I'm sorry if they are easy... we will be working on harder ones for future posts :)

    1. the five boys where wispering and laghing between themselves noone knew that they were planning a entertaining performance

    2. derricks father carried the dog home at 930 am and then he begun to bath it

    I know... they seem extremely easy... sorry about that :oops: ... like I said, we will be working on harder one's.
  5. Haha. I remember when I had to do this everyday in class. ^^

    1. The five boys were whispering and laughing between themselves; no one knew that they were planning an entertaining performance.

    2. Derrick's father carried the dog home at 9:30 AM and then he began to bathe it.

    Pretty easy... Are you making these up or looking online?

    ~Storm
  6. I get these from school and occasionally make them up... like this one!

    i belive that society doesnt have the right to put someone to death. it sends the wrong message; punishes everyone, there is no point in doing so. also, it is morally wrong. There have bin previous attempts at ebolishing the death penalty but they did not last long, or were overlooked completely.

    This is a little snippet of my persuasive paper; this is not how it was actually turned in. I made it terrible on purpose ;)
    Good luck! (Psh, like you guys even need it ;) )
  7. I believe that society doesn't have the right to put some to death. It sends the wrong message, punishes everyone, has no point, and is morally wrong. There have been previous attempts at abolishing the death penalty, but they did not last long or were overlooked completely.

    2/10 Did I get it anywhere close to the original?
  8. You were completely spot- on. That was the exact original! :D

    Here is today's before I forget;

    I know, it's not very hard. Take a crack at it anywho ;)
  9. Knitting

    This is a club that continues during the winter or to new students who have already learned to knit.
  10. OK, I decided to make this one harder and longer; it is a re-written article from my book. No, I am not using DOL to score reviews... I just thought if the passage is longer, and written by me, then it might be a little harder for everyone to solve. Here goes;

    the sun sinks down slowly over the new york skyscrapers, the sun paints orange and red streaks reminiscent of blood across the masive blue canopy. my skin tingles as i take in everything around me. i love dawn and. dusk the times of day were you can observ the battle between the sun and the sky for the prize of light and dark.

    :lol: Wow. Try that on for size!

    This can turn out several different ways, so just do whatever you think will fit :D
  13. "Give me the cookie!" she screamed.
    Kathy's only response was to run away, and fast.

  15. In the book that I am writing, my character has dyslexia. I think Simon, another character in this book, has dyslexia too because they say the words float off the page to them.
