It's mythology, believe it or not!
The parthanon of Native spirits:
Great Spirit- Creator of everything.
Eagle- Messenger of Great Spirit
Bear- Depending on the tribe, it can be a protector, mother goddess or healing goddess.
Dear- Spirit of gentleness
And so on. I can't remember any more off the top of my head.
Jaguar isn't Native, but it's place in Central/South American myth is either the keeper of Fire and/or the keeper of weapons.

I think my favorite mythological creature or creatures are : the Dryads, the Naiads and Oreads.
dryad: spirit of the tree
naiads: spirits of rivers and streams
Oreads: spirit of the mountains. -
Ohh, those can be troublemakers.
Never heard of Oreads though... -
Oreads are mention in The Writer's Complete Fantasy Reference.

Ah-ha! Found them.
I can see why I didn't remember them; since I used a different set of spirits to represent my elements, I glazed over.
They look cool though. -
I've never heard of oreads either. Are they Greek like dryads and naiads?

Correct. They're the mountain spirits.
