What Aspects of Songwriting do you Struggle With?

7 posts in this topic.

  1. Many of you will know that I want to do a Songwriting class by posting articles that you can then ask me questions about and then running a contest, but first of all I want to know what thing you guys would like help with.

When you sit down to write a song, what do you struggle with? When you get critiques on your lyrics, what is the thing that most people point out for you to work on? I don't want to write articles about things you're experts in already, I want to write about the things you need help with.

Post here with the types of things you struggle with in songwriting.
  2. song ideas! That is the main thing that I struggle with. I have no problem with the words or anything. Every once in a while I do have trouble with finding words for some of my choruses.
  3. mine is basicaly getting a good beat/rythem/flow into the song, i write pretty good lyrics, but most of my songs read like poems. Any suggestions on how to stop that?
  4. I have the most trouble with my wording. I'll come up with a great idea, but end up scrapping it because I can't find the right words. I'll have the rhythm that I want, but not the words. Or, some of the words, at least.

  5. I can think of a good topic and I get all the right words and everything...but I CANNOT get the right tune to go with the words! UUUGGGHHH!!!! It's frustrating to have the perfect song and just have it turn out bla because you can't think of the right music to go with it! Any ideas?

  6. Melody, hands down.
  7. Mine is probably melodies. I can only really make them when I have my guitar or a double bass. Without an instrument, I'm lost. :(

You're wrong about humanity. They are your greatest creation because they're better than you are. Sure, they're weak, and they cheat and steal and destroy and disappoint, but they also give and create, and they sing and dance and love. Above all, they never give up.
