Introduce Yourself

  1. I'm excited to be able to tell all that Songwriters Express is officially open! We all knwo why we're here, to talk to other songwriters about the art and get ideas and help.

To start us off, why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself? Your name, how long you've been writning lyrics and your preferred genres would be nice.
  2. Hello! I'm Rick. :) I'm a rapper. The only one you're probably going to find on YWS. I've been rapping for a few years. I started posting some raps back in July 2007. I have some more coming soon. That's all. :)

    -Rick.
  3. I'm chocoholic. I started writing songs when I was very little, but they only started to get good about a month back. My songs tend to be slower ballad-y types, but I have dabbled in pop and rock.
  4. I'm Rebirth. I play guitar and piano. Um...I'm still new at guitar playing and song-writing but I try to practice everyday. I'm also having voice lessons to improve my singing ( I sing badly...lol!). As for my preferred music genre, well, I listen to all types of music. Whether it be rock, hip-hop, RNB, punk, ballad and even opera, you name it. I love music in general. Anyway that's mostly it (sorry I'm not good at introducing myself.)
  5. Hi everyone,

as you can tell by my username I'm Kalliope. I started making up lines and singing them ... I don't know when. I actually can't remember not doing it.
The weird thing is that what comes out are only the lyrics. I have some music in mind, but I can't write it down or play it. All I can do is sing 'em.

I haven't been writing too many songs lately, but I'm getting back into it. Also I help a lot of peolple out with their lyrics for bands, so I'm pretty used to critiquing them and working on a basis you give me.

I usually write the balade type of thing, but also a whole bunch of other stuff where I don't exactly know how to classify it.
  6. Hey, I'm Elise. Umm, I play piano, and used to play guitar and violin, and I'm taking voice lessons, so basically, I'm very music-oriented.
I started writing lyrics maybe...two years ago. I'm not exactly sure the correct date. :)
I like country, ballads, soft rock, and some emo-rock sort of stuff. I think I write ballads best, though. I also love opera, because that's what I'm learning to sing. Vocal and folk music is beautiful, but I'm not sure how to write it.
Well, that's it about me, I suppose!
    -Elise
  7. Hey-oh! Glad to see this is up, it's good to know there's someone with iniative round here

I'm Thriving Fire (well, not really...). I play guitar and I'm about to start playing bass. Basically, I love music. I know that sounds sort of vague, but saying 'I like this music', or 'that genre' seems kind of bewildering to me. I'm into everything from Metallica to Snow Patrol, and everything in between. The songs I tend to write are melodic rock type stuff, although I'm going through a pretty dry spell at the moment, where writing songs just isn't really happening. I think that's coz I set my standards a little high, but there you go :)

    Anyway, that's that.
  8. 'Lo, I'm Ed. I'm getting into playing guitar, and I'm trying to pick up piano again after not touching it for 5 or 6 years. Anyway, I'm new to the whole song-writing game, but so far I'm having fun with it. I mess with all types of genres, but m'stuff usually falls under some consistency of pop-rock. I started a band a bit ago, but it's pretty much a just-for-fun thing (I do keyboard, lyrics, and trade-off on vocals).
  9. I'm Alice! I started writing songs in December of last year and got a few good ones here and there. Hoping to improve them. I also have a strange like for songs that don't have a corus.
  10. Hey, Im Eva =]

I Play guitar, sing but not very goodly i dont think (i'm forced by this cool kid who plays lead)

I write songs and lyrics, play most of it, i'm trying to start a proper band as all the other ones i've been in have been more chilidish and not really going anywhere, just saying, 'yeh, im in a band' heh

I'm into rock and metal and emo stuff, but anything that think sounds good, i'll listen =]]

i prefer lyrics that mean something hehe =]

Anyways, Thats all before i steal half of the board ^.^

    Eva

  11. I'm aestar. I have been offically writing since January. Other than that I've been writing here or there. Genres? Probaly adult contempory, punk rock, pop, and R&B.
  12. Hey, Maybe here.

I haven't been writing lyrics for that long and I don't have any posted here on YWS yet, but hopefully that'll change soon. I was really inspired by Coldplay's new album Viva la Vida which made me really want to start getting back into music.

I'm learning how to play guitar and hopefully piano soon, and I sing a bit. I'm hoping to start taking both guitar and vocal lessons from my dad's friend who's the lead in a local band. I doubt you've heard of them .

I mainly write (soft) rock music similar to that of Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Snow Patrol, and the Kooks. Almost all of my lyrics are inspired by at least one of those bands.

  13. Hi, I'm Angie. I've been writing my own songs for guitar and voice since I got Dracula, my acoustic, when I was seven. I love to write adult alternative, like John Mayer and Five for Fighting.

I'm new to YWS, but I'm sure I'll love it here!!!!

    ***Angie***
  14. Hey i'm Rebbecca
I'm sort of in a band called the heartbroken but my friend jade is still learning guitar at the moment.
I'm the vocalist so they say i write the lyrics but i'm rubbish at it lol.
  15. Hello! I'm fairly certain everyone knows who I am...?

I haven't been writing lyrics for... anytime. I'm more of a poet. But you see, a friend and I have decided to get together and try to make something out of our boredom and lack of musical talent (we'll grow some). I was made songwriter? So I need to learn the ropes!

I hope to make great use of this group!
